Caribe bus stop in Imbert and what is Circunvalacion?

Hello! My family and I plan to take the Caribe Tours bus from La Vega to Imbert (to visit Chocolate Mountain - I'll be getting a taxi from Imbert) but can't figure out where the bus actually stops in Imbert. The Caribe website is blank on the address. Would the address be different whether the schedule is to "Imbert" or "Imbert - Circunvalacion" and what is "Circunvalacion" on the Caribe schedule anyway - that seems to be related to faster bus schedules but not really clear what it means otherwise?

I e-mailed Caribe Tours but haven't heard back from them and my Spanish isn't good enough to call them and talk to an operator.

Thanks in advance!
Elizabeth

I don't know the details of Caribe Tours schedule but Circunvalacion in this case would mean that between La Vega and Imbert the bus does not pass by Santiago but rather as AE said above, goes via the Santiago Circunvalacion - express bus if you will. Without the Circunvalacion on the schedule the bus would stop regularly in Santiago. For Imbert, I don't think there are other stops than on the main highway?

Fantastic, thank you everyone for your prompt response. I'll have the taxi pick us up from highway 5 near the Texaco gas station - this is super helpful, thank you!

Sorry, one more question: can I pick up the bus from Imbert the next day to keep going north? Or is it a drop-off only? The horarios section of Caribe Tours doesn't have a schedule *starting* at Imbert, only *ending* at it. Thank you!

This must be new(?). I've never heard of CaribeTours stopping in Imbert before. They do stop in Pto. Plata.

Drop off sounds easy, just tell the driver before. Pick up MAY require a phone call to caribe tours to coordinate, good luck. Not sure if flagging one down would work.

I don't believe Caribe Tours stops at Imbert to pickup passengers. La Vega to Santiago and back is the only one I know about. Now, if you left from the capital and wanted to be dropped off at Imbert, the driver would oblige you. Same from points north. But to catch the bus at Imbert is not happening.

I'd bet that pick up at Imbert is definitely not happening, too, but I'm doubtful of the drop off, also. A friend of mine goes to Villa Altigracia often about 1/2 hour north of SD on the Autopista. They used to stop there and let passengers off, but no longer. The driver said they are only permitted to stop at scheduled locations.

I never thought that there was a stop at Imbert but Caribetours website does have an option for Imbert on the drop down box on their website and on their office locations they also have Imbert. I have not taken a bus here in many years but they never used to stop in Imbert so I really am not sure, but don't know why they would have it on their website if they didn't stop there.

There's a circunvaluacion around Santiago, but I didn't know there was one around Imbert(?). It must be new.

As I posted above, there is definitely no new circunvalacion. This is obviously referring to the Santiago one, and as the OPs route takes them via Santiago, the website shows routes that take via the circunvalacion AND routes that don't (regular ones that actually go into Santiago).

If possible, I would call Caribe Tours to ask about this. Last time we took the bus was 2022...

Took caribe tours from Santiago to Sosua today. CT said must buy ticket FIRST in puerto plata (or Sosua) and say it’s for an Imbert p/u, BEFORE they would stop in Imbert.
It’s a Catch-22.
Calling won’t work. So I was told by CT.
They do drop off in Imbert, my driver slowed in Imbert, opened his door and called out “IMBERT…?”

Amazing! Thank you for first hand report! That catch-22 is hilarious though. I'll take a Javilla Tours bus up from Imbert instead of CT.

The are one or two other smaller bus companies that run that route, also. They pick up and stop wherever you want.

That is the way. On your way back you take Javilla tour from Imbert to Santiago, then get off at CaribeTour, and onwards to LaVega.

Also, they do not open the luggage trunk at Imbert, so take everything on the bus with you. No worries as they will remind you as you get on at Santiago.
