I was looking on Caribe tours website and saw that you can reserve tickets online. Anyone know if reserving tickets online reserves a spot on the bus? Can you take luggage on the bus or do they have to put underneath? We have 1 suitcase per person. Don't know if its true- but I've heard sometimes luggage gets stolen when the bus makes stops to pick up/drop off passengers so you should get out at each stop and watch until they shut the luggage doors. Does anyone know how many stops between Santo Domingo and Jarabacaoa? I used to go to school in Jarabacoa (15 yrs ago!) but never used the bus system since our school had drivers.

I didn't know you can reserve tickets online, but if you can, I am certain you cannot reserve a seat. You stand in line to board like everyone else.

With luggage it is like a plane. There is an open place for small bags above the seats and a large area for most luggage underneath. I don't think theft is much of a problem.

I have to second that, never heard of booking in advance, first in line get choice of seat. And I can't imagine much theft as there is abag controller who takes care of where to put your bag depending on where you are going to get off.

Yes you can take luggage on board. As long as it's not a huge suitcase, otherwise it'll have to go below. The bus leaves right on time, and is usually one of the first two bus slots(parking spots) There is a sign. There will be a stop in La Vega 5-10 minutes, and possible stops to let people off on the way to Jarabacoa - like Buena Vista. If you have to put luggage underneath put it in the first compartment and shove it to the back. I've made many trips to Jarabacoa/Santo Domingo return without any issues. I've never prebooked.

in the event that you do plan to travel on Caribe Tours, be sure to take a goose down parka, gloves, and dress in several layers of winter attire. the temperatures in those coaches will freeze your kidneys.

This is more likely during the early hours than in the hot part of the day. But even then, depending on the bus, you may be glad if you have a long sleeve shirt or light sweater to put on.

Buy Two Tickets!

I like to buy two tickets. They cost is so low,why not be comfortable? I am 6'6" so I NEED the extra room, but you can put your bags beside you. The guy who takes the tickets, will TRY an put someone next to you,I just show him my two tickets.
I got tired of pretty young Dominican women alway sitting beside me,pretending to be asleep, and then groping me!!!!:cheeky:;)

My experience, and I've taken the trip Jarabacoa -Santo Domingo and back about a dozen times over the past 5 years is usually a stop in La Vega for 10-15 minutes, and possibly several stops to let people off/on in Beuna Vista. Some trips there is only the stop in La Vega.
