Carnival 2025 La Vega

Any members here have some solid information on the carnival in February 2025. I have read that throughout the whole month of February is carnival time. Then I read that the carnivals are aimed more towards February 25-27th any help with info much appreciated. Wife and I will be bussing in our family from Nagua to La Vega. Any info on small hotels in La Vega there would help. Thanks in advance.

I lived in La Vega in the nineties. It used to be carnival every Sunday in February. I never really entered the scene, it used to be quite chaotic and sometimes violent.
A lot of drunk people you could find them even the day after lying on the street in the parks.
My opinion is, it’s not for a family outing.

Thank you. I went there in February 2011 had a blast. Problem we have is an infant 9 months old and a 2 year old. Been looking at hotels Airbnb in La Vega but many family members are saying forget about the carnival lets go to Punta Cana. We just got back from Sousa in september. I don't see myself going back to Sousa again. It looks like all major cities have carnivals throughout february.

Carnivals go back to colonial times as it was introduced by the Spaniards in the 1500’s and it always occurs before lent in the Catholic calendar.

As for Punta Cana, for a few years now they have their own carnival which takes place in Puntacana Village. While La Vega’s is the oldest (of the hemisphere, not just the DR), Punta Cana’s is among the newest, if not the newest of all.
