It is your basic 2.5/3 star dump, it is not luxury, but is really the only AI in Sosua, (currently). You get your money's worth here. You are really better off renting a condo and self catering and eating @ the many fine establishments in Sosua and supporting local restaurants.

Couldn't agree more. Stayed there several years back. Most of the other guests were of the "heavily discounted vacation hunter" type, the booze was totally watered down, and the food was often unrecognizable or inedible. The best meal I had was spaghetti with some unknown sauce (thought it was mushroom-less mushroom sauce, but figured I would be happier in the long run by simply not asking). Rooms were ok, but older at the time, and the animacion dancers could all be found in Classico's, so no benefit there.

Actually, sitting down to one of the horrible meals there is what led me and my party to go looking for normal restaurants, and we found the excellent Morua Moi. We rapidly learned that happiness is renting a villa and either eating out or hiring a chef.

I will be looking forward so much to this trip report. Hope you have a great time.

Thanks to all for your advice. Staying at Casa Marina seems to be the only all inclusive in Sosua, and yes for a great price. Planning a 2 week stay in September. Our trip this time is to completely check out rental apartments in Sosua as well as Cabarete. Want to be close in town, for walking all around, and restaurants. Consensus seems to be that the food is not great here, so will be close enough for good meals out of the resort. If anyone has any favourite restaurants, please let me know. Thanks

I have just read on the Trip Advisor forum that the Casa Marina is closed. Someone posted that they are friends with the staff and the staff were told to pack up and leave. The place has been sold to someone new.

Just wondering if anyone knows if this is true? I am supposed to be going there in two weeks! I do have a call into the agency I booked with and am hoping they will call soon with good news, but I also wanted to put this info out there for anyone else.

Thanks

Okay everyone, it appears I jumped the gun. I just read some more notes from the Trip Advisor board and it appears as though they've closed down the restaurants and bars on the Reef side, and they did let a lot of the animation staff and dancers go... but they are open for business.

I was just so nervous about it that I was looking for some info on here...to impatient to wait to hear back from my travel agent. Sorry. :)

Stop being Nervous Nellie....Just go and have a good time, make sure you go into town and try local restaurants, you will be sick of the AI buffet cattle food by day two.

PS: Don't believe everything you read on The WWW......'specially TA!

There is always some word going about where CMR/B are concerned, beit staff, upgrade, whatever. As far as I know, no matter what the word is the place just continues to plod along and keep going. As said, you'll probably end up using the place for B&B within a few days.

Oh, and TA rarely gets it right with stuff outside of sunburn and talking mozzy spray, their ear isn't as close to the ground as some of these DR1 members.
