Sorry if this is off-topic.... (If the moderator should move this, that would be no problem :cheeky:).

The main ScotiaBank site http://www.scotiabank.com/cda/index/0,,LIDen_SID15,00.html states:
Scotiabank International

With more than 2,000 branches and offices in 50 countries, Scotiabank is the most international of the Canadian Banks

According to the next site: Scotiabank - Caribbean
The statement there is: "With over 200 branches throughout the Caribbean"....

But you're saying that they are not the same bank as the main ScotiaBank in Canada? :squareeye If so, what's the story about that?

Why not have them deposit it into your Canadian account if you still have one and then you just take out the cash from an ATM machine

I think that's a good idea and if you bank with Scotiabank, which is a Canadian bank... you can access the money right away and confirm through your online banking and even transfer it from one account to another.

I just read this after making my last post. But it is possible to perform transfers from Canadian Scotiabank accounts to Domincan Scotiabank accounts. I asked about his when I was down on my last visit. I went to the bank to withdraw funds from my line of credit and wanted to know if I could transfer funds from my bank account in Canada into a Dominican account if I opened one. They said yes but there could be a hold placed on the funds until they clear and they can charge a fee for doing this etc....

Technically option 1 is forgery, but surely you've been in DR long enough to work around the rules a bit.

If not, then just have them fedex the cheque to you, sign and endorse the back to them, and fedex it back to them. total cost 80$. (or save hte 80$ and have them forge your signature).

I would be afraid a cheque would get lost in the unreliable mail system. And once it's endorsed it could fall into the wrong hands and bye bye $$$

cashing a canadian check is not a problem in my experience. the big problem is canadian check in us dollars.

not sure how quick you need the money but go to RUSA in POP and deposit it. not where you change money but upstairs to your right. you'll get the money faster than a bank. or open up a certificado de valor and wait 6 months and get the money in canadian or pesos along with 3 percent.

ive never deposited a canadian check in canadian dollars in my bank only a candadian check in us dollars and that cost me alot of money so dont do that.

not sure if i helped but good luck
