Would do some careful checking. My daughter in finland found that none of their banks will cash a US gov. check. Her sister works for a Check cashing place in the US and they will not take Gov check without the person being there. They won't touch a third party check at all. The deposit idea above is the most viable but not sure how that works with Gov checks.
