A bit of mixed news. Castaways Restaurant in Uvero Alto has closed. The really good news is that Mike the owner has secured a new location in El Cortecito just before Katz restaurant.
The new place will be open in early September and will be called Castaways Bistro.
The old place on the beach has reopened with typical overpriced bad food but does have reasonable service.
Why the owners of property here think they can do better than the people who rent these places will always be a mystery to me.

That's really bad news. Castaways was one of our favourites and I'm not keen on driving to El Cortecito, especially in the evenings.

We'll have to give the new place a try at least once. Are the prices much higher now?

I glanced at a menu and the lower priced items are gone. It seemed high to me. It's now the same guy that ownes all the restaurants in that area.
It's quite sad that Mike had to move on. Hopefully he can find a beach location as well

Thanks for the information on prices.

I've found out that Mike's chef, Lubin, has gone with him, which is a good reason to pay Castaways Bistro a visit!

Yes Lubin went with Mike. I hope they do really well in their future endeavors.
I don't recall what the new owners call the beach location but from what I have heard they only have a few things on the new menu and the quality is poor and the price is high.
The way they treated Mike, it looks like karma might smack them upside the head. I can only hope.
Cheers

New update on the former Castaways Restaurant. It was called Coco Mar. On Tuesday March 25 the Fiscal police and the military brought in a large loader and knocked the bar and all the shade huts down. This was at sunrise. There are pics and videos on Facebook.
I have heard they also destroyed the restaurant but can't find any pics to confirm it. The bar was built ridiculously close to the waters edge and this was going to happen as it was just a matter of time. The authorities also knocked down most of El Navagante which was on the other side of The Sirens hotel.

Meanwhile Michael's new Castaway and Bistro seems to be doing good in El Corticeto

The police knocked everything down except the toilets. Makes me wonder if they are making a statement of some type.
