i am sorry but your math confuses me also. you state (fine is 300 a month or 2500 a year) when i went to school the answer would have been 3600 but maybe i dont understand this new math. so what you are saying is that there is a cap on the fine? funny but i know people who have paid more then that

it is 300 a month, but if more than a year you get a discount and they charge 2500 a year. Did the people who paid more than that have a lawyer? If so, nuff said.

No, that s not correct. JCE states on their website its 500 pesos per month (only) with a minimum of 3000 pesos.

There is no minimum. The website said there was a grace period from July to Dec with a maximum of 3k.

The website SAYS that it s a minimum. This comes straight from jce.

On the JCE website it says a minimum of RD$3,000. In the latest newspaper article (Diaro Libre) it says a total of 3,000 which makes more sense!

(And you still wonder why they can't keep the lights on???)

That's where I read it yesterday, but honestly what is stated on the JCE weighs more to me and makes more sense to me as well, being the DR

Mauricio they have done this before. They try and get all foreigners to renew by doing a special offer. I know what the Junta website says but I think what they mean is that however long your cedula has expired by, you wont pay more than 3k which is 6 months at the standard 500 a month. Don't tell me than if your cedula is only a month out of date they will make you pay 3k!

the web site for Direcci?n General de Migraci?n is being built new to reflect the changes, up until a few days ago it was up with all the old information, so for references there we will have to wait.

I have my paper work for 2009 resedencia, expiration fine was RD$250.00 per month, I have copy of same from 2011 and was RD$500.00 per month.

I renewed my Cedula dec. 2011, fine was RD$500.00 per month, I paid 33 months, was RD$16,500 + regular fees.

JCE web site new article states, and quote there should be a minimum RD$3,000.00 to pay, so if you are 1 - 6 month late, you will pay at least the RD$3,000.00, now he states that in the news article, does not mean thats the law, it could very well be wishful thinking.

I'd bet it is still RD$500.00 per month, no minimum and of course no max., but I bet too, they will bump it to RD$1,000.00 per month just like Migracion did!

I do not like anyof it but when in Rome we must play by thier rules........

Hey buddy, if you paid RD$1,000 per month fine you were not very smart!!! A friend of mine just came back from Santo Domingo and paid only 250 per month expiration and he only paid RD$1,000 for his cedula!!!!

...renewed this morning, expired only 7 monthes, paid 7 x RD$1,000.00 plus regular fees, total RD$14,500.00, had all my docs in a row, in by 8:30 a.m. was out by 9:30 a.m.....

So how come that old residency was only 7 months expired if you did not renew it in 2011?

Excuse me, something doesn't match....

anything is possible here in wonderland................What is Posted and printed is RD$1,000.00 for each month expired, if he got away with RD$250.00 good for him, if later through fate they decide his renewal is invalid, then what? Go through the new proccess??? Like i say anything is possible here in wonderland.

In 2009 I went to JCE, to renew my cedula, they had problem with computers or something, they gave me my receipt, CLEARLY JCE receipt, after so many time calling, and going in, finally they deem same as invalid as it would have been valid for a dominicano, but not extranjero.

who know................here in wonderland, up is down, down is up and sometimes neither!

Can anyone give some updated information for an American who needs to renew their Cedula which expired in 2009?
Their residencia has been renewed and is good for another 7 years ( lucky to have renewed during that short period when they where giving out 10 yr renewals)
.........also, in addition to how to renew and approx costs and overdue fees etc.....WHERE is the office located now? Last I knew it was in a small building BEHIND Junta Central in Santo Domingo on the rotary......

Thanks for any info......they hope to go next week.

the new building is very close. basically, you go around the roundabout (see how that sounds!) and take the next thing on your right than before. you can ask just about anyone around there and they will know. i cannot recall a street number but the building is medium size, orangy yellow.

they will give you all details regarding late payments. it is quite a lot of money thou. it used to be something like 500 pesos per month or so. so be prepared.

do wear long pants and long sleeves. they are very fussy about outfits there, especially for a photo (long sleeve shirt is best).

Here you can check how much you owe:

Consultar C?dulas Extranjeros

I think there is an amnesty in place until the end of the year where you pay altogether only RD$3,000. Not sure about the exact amount but definitely less than the normal late fees.
