The Central Electoral Board (JCE) in the Dominican Republic is responsible not only for general elections, but also controls the civil registry and the issuing of the personal identity card known as the “cedula.”
The JCE had announced it would be issuing new IDs this 2024 after organizing the February and May 2024 elections. Last week, the JCE told reporters that the issuing of the national identity card will start after the inauguration ceremonies for the second administration of President Luis Abinader on 16 August 2024. The JCE has not shared more details on the new card or the date when the renewal procedures will start.
