The Centro León, the leading cultural institution in Santiago, the country’s second-largest city, has inaugurated a new exhibition space in its Anthropological Hall. The new space, titled “Mestizaje: Encounters and Disencounters,” is part of the museum’s permanent exhibition, “Signs of Identity,” Acento reports.
The exhibition explores the complex history of the Dominican Republic, highlighting the contributions of the indigenous people, the Spanish colonizers, and the African slaves. The exhibition also examines the process of adaptation, transformation, and fusion that resulted from these encounters.
“Signs of Identity” is an ongoing project that seeks to explore the formation of Dominican national culture. The new exhibition space is the latest addition to this project.
