The US did.............and so did the World Bank, Central American Bank..............and many other countries and organizations who have supplied them with aid to combat Covid and to buy vaccines.

China stepped up.......that is hilarious...........they sold them the majority of the vaccines..........and at $21.00 a jab.............far more than the announced advance purchase of the AZ vaccine at $4.50.

And who paid for the majority of those vaccines? See the first paragraph.

And the efficacy of the Chinese vaccines lol? Well under Moderna, Pfizer, and even AZ.

And the origin country of the virus?

But China stepped up..........lol.

Well,
If the US and Moderna did,
Why isn't the DR with well under 10 million doses needed for the beginning, flooded with US vaccines and why aren't Dominicans inoculated.

If the US and Moderna would have stepped up in a meaningful way,
The DR would not need Chinese or Russian vaccines.

Promises and current reality are different.
Dominican Republic current per 100 persons 0.24 lol to you.
US per 100 19.65
Israel per 100 90.21

As usual there are promises for future help and contributions.
It would be great if the best vaccines of advanced Nations were actually being administered in the DR right now.
This however is not a current reality for the DR.

The doses mentioned below did actually arrive from China on the ground in the DR.
Why then can the powerful US, EU do not better by actually providing real life doses right now, the best of the best.

Great to diss China but they actually did something.

"Vice President Raquel Peña, who heads the Abinader administration’s Health Cabinet, was at Las Americas International Airport on the evening of 23 February 2021 to receive the shipment of 768,000 Coronavac/Sinovac vaccines from the People’s Republic of China. The vaccines flew in on an Air France flight from China."

The United States, while announcing an immediate $2-billion in additional funds for COVAX, rejected the idea of sharing its own supply with poorer countries at this stage. “We’re not at that point yet,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Friday. “Our priority and our focus is on vaccinating the American people.”

Biden will outline the pledge during Friday's virtual meeting with G7 members. The White House plans to release $2 billion immediately and use the second $2 billion as leverage to get other wealthy nations to contribute to the global vaccination effort, according to the administration official, who briefed reporters on the condition of anonymity.

The Trump administration had refused to participate in COVAX.

Future promises?

The money was given in advance.

Are you suggesting China is not an advanced nation?

It is no ones fault (but you would like it to be) other than the DR. They contracted for vaccines in advance at $4.50 from Astra Zeneca. Those vaccines have not arrived. Whose fault would that be?

Now we have a big announcement from China about shipping vaccines to the DR for $21.50 a jab. They did not provide the majority, per the article, for free. They were paid for from funds "donated" to them, not loaned, by the US/World Bank/Cantral American Bank etc.

Maybe the DR should ask the Chinese to come and vaccinate them too.

Yeah the Chinese did something alright, they sold the DR a sub-standard over priced vaccine, that someone else paid for.

Hilarious.

Your side swipe into US politics AGAIN did not go un-noticed

Roll up those sleeves lol.

Didn't mean like, rather the opposite!

China stepped up and DR gov. is doing the best they can at the moment.
Why didn't the US and Moderna step up to help the DR and supply vaccines at at cost effective prices for a poor country?
Why didn't China step up back in January of last year?

Why didn't China step up back in January of last year?
It would have needed to have be at least two months before that for China;s step up to be of any real use. Things were starting to heat up with CV19 around November of 2019. By January things were well on their way to what we have today.

You can say that again, and again, and again and it still won't be enough. China is and always will be the bad guy in this movie.

And lets not forget the complicity of the World Health Organization in accepting the Chinese attempted cover up that there was no evidence of human to human transmission of the virus;

Or the two courageous doctors (Le Wenliang and Ai Fen) who blew the whistle and either died...........or disappeared.

Step right up and roll up those sleeves............what could go wrong.........China to the rescue lol.

The Chinese vaccine just barely surpasses the minimum efficacy for certification. That pretty much says it all. An expensive product for what you get. Some potential health risks but very little in the way of virus protection. One would think this would make it the very last choice for governments and patients, but the media is playing it up here in the DR.

Dean says vaccines typically work best at preventing severe disease. That's what the Brazil trial found: 78% of the time, the Sinovac vaccine protected people against moderate or severe disease — and even mild disease that needed some medical assistance. But when the researchers included what they called "very mild" symptoms that needed no medical attention, the vaccine's effectiveness dropped to 50%.

"As we tend to include milder and milder cases, it's natural to see a bit of a drop in vaccine efficacy," Dean says.

Sinovac is conducting trials for its vaccines in various countries, but the company hasn't released much of the data. John Moore, a vaccine researcher and immunologist with Weill Cornell Medicine, says that lack of openness has made it hard for scientists not involved in the Sinovac vaccine trials to know exactly what's going on.

"It's science by press release," Moore says. "The Chinese are being, well, characteristically less than transparent."
Another quote from the article:

"It's much better than nothing," says Dr. Denise Garrett, an epidemiologist with the Sabin Vaccine Institute in Washington D.C.
