….By definition the word colonization means ...to exterminate the native population, and steal the natural resources ….The Spanish were very good at this...read about Cortez in Mexico or Pizzaro in South America...Also Colon ran one of his 3 ships on to a coral reef on the north coast of the DR somewhere near Puerto plata… He then salvaged the lumber and built a small fort he named Isabel (after the Queen) and left some of his men to stay there until his return trip the next year....Well about a year later he returned only to find all his men dead, killed by the local Indians, because they had stolen all the Indian women....and so this type of behavior continues here to this day …….Doc.....

Spaniards are still stealing native women? https://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/colonization

The average Dominican I know has very little real idea of the history of Hispaniola or Columbus.
Maybe I need to raise the ed level of my friends but most do not even read the newspaper except to check the lottery numbers.
Certainly not saying it is true for all

I was with a group of Dominicans and the subject of their africanness came up and several had no knowledge that they had any african blood. never been there is what they answered the guy who brought it up.

There are quite a few Dominicans that possess very little african blood.

We have lived in LA Isabela Harbor (Historica La Isabella) for 11 years where Columbus landed on "The Americas". Each year during "Columbus Week" the population rose from around 1500 residents to around 20-25 THOUSAND folks! BIG fiesta for the entire week including a parade. About three years ago when Columbus took a "hit" in the states (and possibly world wide) the event here dwindled down to almost nothing. The last two years its pretty much only locals. Suddenly no on likes Columbus anymore....I think I know why, but I'll keep those thoughts to myself. Columbus week was about the only thing going in or community.
