I flew Condor business for half of a life time.
Since Covid their business class service went downhill, many appliances(seat functions etc) on the chartered old ***** up planes did not function,
so I changed last year to Eurowings.
Same comfy Wednesday evening night flight to Frankfurt, great planes, top business services, pricing the same, even a tad bit cheaper.
So as long as Eurowings is serving direct non-stop PUJ-FfM-PUJ as a night flight, so long Condor will not see me back.
If you check Eurowings there are no current flights.

EW redirects to LH which uses EW Discover.
You live in PUJ and most airlines fly there.
SDQ and POP are not easily available from EU and CAN destinations.

Condor does use older planes, but at least they still have consistent service to POP-PUJ-SDQ
Something many airlines do not have any more.
WetJet- WS used to fly year around to POP, not any more.
Service starts up end of October to May.

We have to be thankful for any connections available.

FRA-and MUC are major EU and international hubs with great service.
Of course if one can get a non stop flight to the final destination that's the way to go.
I don't care about the cost, my time and comfort with NO connecting flights is the most important.

Travel to the EU non stop from the DR is a great option, even with another chore of ETIAS added.

The old days of getting on a plane with your ticket, having a smoke, drink and minimum screening are gone.
I remember flights where the pilot ordered stop smoking, as the ventilation could not handle it any more.
Travel and comfort has new dimensions, you pay extra for it.

My last flight this year to EU been leaving DR April 19th and coming back to DR 6 weeks later on May 31st.
2 weeks prior to me leaving, Condor stopped their Wednesday night flight and it was still not on when I came back May 31st.
I did not check on flights since then, as my next 2 ones will be May and again September 2024 in that direction across the big pond.
What I booked was Lufthansa, which is running those direct flights between FfM and PUJ with Eurowings Discover.
Top Planes and top services, both well superior to my decades long Condor experience on the prior flights.
To fly via Bruessels, Paris or Munich is not an option, as such stop overs would take away all my convenience of flying business class, means i want a comfy night flight, zero jet lag as i sleep in my bed on the plane at the same time i would be in bed here in DR and wake up when the day started in germany, no change of rhytm, and they fly direct without any stop overs or taking a Train or rental car from Paris, Bruessels or Munich to arriva at my house.
From Frankfurt I take my privately booked transfer who awaits me at the gate and drops me 1hr later off at my home, the same on my way back to the DR.
My rental car already awaits me at my home and gets picked up there after I left.
Condor was for many years the only option, this year they cut down on flight days and I choose Lufthansa via Eurowings, which I am very happy about, as their services and planes been well superior over Condor's, so as long as those fly my wednesday night flight, so long I will not think about going back to Condor.

We need a new thread about flights between Europe and the DR. I am on the way now Hamburg to Madrid to Santo Domingo with Iberia.

I do not know one person who would not take what it was like before we added the "new dimensions" of travelling in comfort.

My daughter, born in DR and travels with Canadian passport with no issue. The passport says she was born here so in and out she goes with no visas or penalties.
Now I was born in Portugal and have never had travel documents from there but my Canadian passport says born in Portugal. Would I need to get this new screening document or am I excepted without it.
Im sure many are in the same position.

Your daughter with Canadian Passport has next year/starting 2024 to fill in ETIAS.
You, if traveling with your portuguise/EU Passport do need nothing, as you just travel back home to your home soil/EU.
Same for me, EU Passport, no ETIAS, my daughter also EU Passport, even born in DR, No ETIAS.

Sorry, I understood wrong, as you said you are born in Portugal, I thought automatically that you have a passport of your birth country, which would be a EU Passport.
Without that, starting 2024, you need the same as your daughter, the up to date(3 years valid or up to expiration of your passport, which ever comes first) ETIAS to travel to Portugal/Europe.

Btw, as you are born in Portugal, you should be able to get a EU passport, so you would never comply with any ETIAS nor VISA nor whatsoever requirements, as you count as a EU Citizen.
I am the father of such multi-Culti family, too, lol.
My daughter is born in DR, but as I am a EU national father, she also has a german birth certificate and of course the important EU Passport, which allows to travel almost the whole planet without complicated Visa requirements, and our travels to the Grannies in germany do not require anything else than the up to date european passport.

Good to hear; I've been hesitant to book anything with Eurowings.

I also use a laptop for many things. I just thought everybody did their communicating and SoMe including something like dr1 on their phones. Seems awkward to sit in front of a computer to dr1.
I only look at it on a laptop.
(And I suspect I'm younger than most on here).

Me, too, I do all such only on the Laptop, nothing on the smartphone.
I prefer the nice screen for reading over a small smartphone screen and typing on a keyboard is what I did all my life for a living, typing messages on smartphones is a mayor mess, lol.
Whatsapp is the only messenger I type on my phone, but only when on the road, otherwise even whatsapp i type on my laptop.

Depends:
  • 23px-Flag_of_Portugal.svg.png
Portugal: A child born in Portuguese territory to parents who do not possess another nationality is a Portuguese citizen. Also, a person born to foreign parents who were not serving their respective states at the time of birth is a Portuguese citizen if the person declares that they want to be Portuguese and provided that one of the parents has resided in Portugal for at least one year at the time of birth.[88]

The poster stated to hold a Portuguise Passport, taht means the person is a portuguise citizen or has multiple citizenship including the one from Portugal.
Others would not qualify to get that passport.

Yes,
As a Canadian Passport holder you have to fill out the ETIAS application.
If you were able to obtain an Portuguese Passport you would not have to as an EU citizen.

It is simple,
Any direct flight on a major airline to your final destination is best.
Who would want to have several stops along the way, even worse if they include plane transfers and other countries.

As we are in a new after covid world, things are different.
Airlines have reduced services, routes and direct- non stop flights.
So we are forced to find the best airline and connection.

Some people want to save money, don't mind two transfers in two different countries along the way.
For me direct flight and comfort is worth additional cost.
I don't want to sit in a cattle car/ economy with hundreds in a single aisle plane sharing two bathrooms in the back, on a tiny uncomfortable seat for 11 hrs.
I prefer premium check in- boarding and security screening.

Many airlines originating in EU do not have service to POP-STI-SDQ
You have to sift through availability, major airlines and charter flights.
Including equipment in service.

This thread continues to go off topic..even after several reminders. I am sure everyone pretty much has an idea about the ETIAS in 2024 now. Closing thread.
