Civil Aviation air passenger traffic is surpasses 50% of pre-pandemic level

April 2021 became the first month this year in which more than 50% of the air traffic of 2019, the pre-pandemic year, is back. “The Dominican Republic has shown an extraordinary recovery in April in the flow of passengers. This is demonstrated by the number of air operations we have today,” explained this Wednesday, 12 May 2021, the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) president, José E. Marte Piantini, when he released the statistics of the number of people transported to and from the country.

In April 2021, 738,163 passengers were transported (353,125 on inbound flights and 385,038 on outbound flights). This is more than 50% of the passengers transported in the same month of 2019, when 1.3 million passengers were mobilized. Compared to March 2021, the April numbers are up 17% or 107,222 more passengers. Marte Piantini says April is a new record for traffic after the aviation shut down in March 2020...
