Claro increases Internet speeds

The only thing I noticed is that the signal is consistent again after a month of continuous interruptions, couldn't hold signal for longer then 30 sec or so.

I did have this problem with Blackberry tethered to the modem. I though the interruptions were the "feature" of the BIS tethering. I now see that their 3G network did have problems internally, when you say that Banda Ancha Claro was disconnecting as well. A year ago I used BAClarop on remote computer when our local Flash DSL went down, and it held connection even for 72 hours straight.

When you have the Flash/DSL from Claro... can you suspend service when you are away?

Anybody know?

Gracias.

Yes you can, but they will only reduce your bill by 50%.
The minimum you can get away with is RD$730 if you have a flash connection.

The best thing to do if you don't want to cut the line is downgrade your internet line to the lowest speed and cheapest phone line. Currently with Claro this is RD$1460 including taxes. Once the line has been downgraded, then suspend it just before you leave. Your account will need to have a zero balance before they allow you to suspend it.

You can do this all over the phone.

I was amazed at the speeds in Florida. They were about 4 times what i get here with a fairly basic Claro plan. (I download at 170-195 kbps. In Florida it was up in the 2 Mbps range, I think...)

OK...wait a sec. Are you talking about wireless service or wired?

This is what I get in Miami (with an old router with my MANY downloads going...)

I am hoping to move there within a year and I am soooooo gonna be jonesing for my bandwith!!!

I can get about 30mb down/8mb up otherwise. Am I screwed trying to get anything remotely close to that on a hard wired line?

wind telecom has 4G. I was able to play games on xbox live. Even though it had lag, it was still playable. I never had any complaints about speed. Pages loaded quick enough for me. As far as streaming videos, it did buffer for a couple of minutes, but after that it was good.

It's the upload speed that concerns me. That limits many businesses that could base here but need a bigger pipe without robbing a bank.

I has a plan in FL 4 years ago that included 20/5mbs internet, HDTV and phone for around $125.

So you're limited to 10GB. I see there is a 25GB plan.

I'd pay more for an unlimited bandwidth plan.
Indeed, I would go for the 25 gigs, which amounts to 2800RD$/month, but I am a bit broke those days, so I stick with the cheap one...
