Cocaine found in rolls of textile that would have been exported to Australia

Authorities in the Dominican Republic have intercepted a shipment of cocaine concealed within rolls of fabric destined for Australia. The operation was carried out by agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and members of the Public Ministry.

During a joint inspection at a shipping company’s warehouse in the National District, officials discovered two packages of cocaine hidden inside the core of several fabric rolls. The total weight of the seized cocaine is approximately one kilogram.

According to the shipping manifest, the fabric rolls were sent by an individual from La Romana province and were intended for delivery to an address in Brunswick East, Australia.

The DNCD and the Public Ministry have launched an investigation into the thwarted drug trafficking attempt to identify and apprehend those involved in the international network.

Uhm, er, yes.

I am WELL aware that the failed war on drugs cannot ever stop the desire people have for drugs, including cocaine.

I just was unaware that Australia was on the list in addition to North America and the EU that used the DR for transhipment, but
when you think about it, it makes perfect sense since so much coke goes through the DR on a daily basis that there is no lack of supply
in any country that wants it. Tomorrow or the next day we will see another "catch" like this. As Ecoman pointed out the DR is a valuable resource in
the drug trade worldwide
