Are there any tourist-friendly cockfighting arenas in and around Punta Cana, especially ones near Uvero Alto?
How can I see the arenas' schedules?

One time mentioned that cockfighting is one of the most important spectators sports in the DR and a group was in arms, them Dominicans too! There are places in the DR where you can’t get a natural good night sleep if you happen to be awake when the roosters decided it’s a good time to start crowing. Then it feels as if all the roosters in the country are crowing to each other at 2 am. Much of that is due to all the cockfighting since many of the roosters crowing are in cages in what could be considered rooster farms. All galleras are safe and tourist-friendly, there's always a few cops hanging around too. Lots of drinking and yelling but it's all harmless. Most are open Saturdays and Sundays. In another post you said you have Dominican citizenship, you should know all about galleras lol.
It was funny a few years ago when the US government attempted to ban cockfighting in its entire territory including the colonies like Puerto Rico. There too cockfighting is widespread, in fact many Puerto Ricans go to the DR with their roosters to take a part in cockfighting championships. lol. It’s a Spanish tradition (not the only ones to practiced it and took it to their colonies, but the Spaniards were the first and probably the first cockfight in the Americas took place in SD; so of course cockfighting will be widespread in Puerto Rico.)cockfighting rings are the safest places on the island, many carry pistols. If you are there to bet or watch its safe. Its 95 % men except those serving drinks. I would go every day if I could, I love it.
One of my favorite cock fighting rings was in Puerto Rico, directly across the street from the Ritz Carlton, I don't know if it's still there. It was funny a few years ago when the US government attempted to ban cockfighting in its entire territory including the colonies like Puerto Rico. Washington DC said “the end of cockfighting is among us…”
Well, this was the then governor of Puerto Rico basically exploiting a loophole in the prohibition to essentially make cockfighting legal again in PR. San Juan doesn’t see things eye-to-eye on this with Washington DC.

they make for tasty chicken sandwiches.Except for the roosters
you are safe coming and going from the ring. No one will accost you leaving or entering. It would be a death sentence.I went to one in STI a few years ago, there was the 1st time I saw a Lambo Urus in person, the parking lot was full of Lexus LX570s, few Benz Gs, Porsches... You could clearly see who's who too, from older guys who were politicos and legit businessman to younger guys full of tattoos and gold chains, everyone was friendly. It's like going to a gym in a way, most egos are left at the door and everyone's in there to work out, or in this case to have a good time. As Big said, almost everyone was armed but those guys are rich so it was for their protection on the street and not inside the gallera. I love the culture and the whole ambience.
no sheet, they still have to walk to the ring from the parking lot or streetMost patrons don't live next door to the gallera.
