Six to seven figures. Give or take counting cash crops and side hustles.

The problem with all of these strategies, from online education to this one is that none of them consider the average and below average Dominican household.
On paper, it looks brilliant and progressive and innovative.
In reality, it’s absurd, idiotic, and impossible.
People in charge are just so far removed from the struggles of daily life that they imagine these projects from their perspective and initiate them with wonderful (albeit naive) intentions. Their houses and apartments have 24 hour power and central air. Their jeepetas (plural) are all registered in their name. Someone like a nanny, tutor, or chauffeur takes care of all that for them. It works looking through their lens.

But their lens is not zoomed out and not representative of reality.

An inspiring trip to Europe and the exciting announcement that some new initiative is going to be a smash hit would be much better spent getting an ear to the ground in the barrios and the campos.
You're right on with that. I've often thought that the policia should be renamed. Something akin to
'FINANCIAL ENHANCEMENT DIVISION'

This, together with the brilliant plan of virtual education - they are wanting to implement sophisticated electronic tools where they don't even have electricity reliably available... I agree with others....

In our case, the matricula of our vehicle has my name but an inexisting address in a different town due to the fact as per Intrant, our address does not exist... I wonder how come the house we live in and that of our neighbors does exist... Then they just did not care and put a random address... Same thing when Edeeste told us when we lived a short period of time in the capital... They were unable to give me a luz contract as the house we lived in did not exist in their database, despite me having our rental contract in front of them.... So I wonder where this mail would go do...

But would it matter? Assuming it's tracked to a cédula#, then they have you whenever you're stopped or try to do govt business.

An address doesn't matter much. When you go to renew your your marbete, you won't be able to - until you pay the fine.

True, but as atleast I stated in my comment, the most frequent red light crossers, are motos. And motos DOES'NT USE MARBETE!!
One of the greatest issues with this "fix" is that it doesn't target the correct people. What will happen if you cross a red light and get a ticket and you decide not to pay it?
You won't be able to renew marbete (doesn't apply to motos).
You won't be able to leave the country (I would assume the majority of those who drive moto and cross a red light, aren't the kind of people who travel that much).
You won't be able to renew a license (I would also assume that the majority of those who drive moto and cross a red light aren't the kind of people who care about renewing or even having a license in the first place)
You won't be able to get a good conduct certification (that would only apply if they apply for a new job and they would request a good conduct cert).

So these "measures" aren't targeted at the correct kind of people who constantly disregards the traffic laws, but towards those who occasionally do and also have any kind of interest in not having fines stacked up to their persona. So maybe they'll fix the 10% of the red light crossers, but not the VAST majority.

About 2 years ago, I got ticketed coming out of Puerto Plato. Claiming the light had change from green to Red as I passed through !! (worth a try as my camera wasn't working at the time !!! HOWEVER come the time to renew my Residencia , it was refused because I hadn't paid the ticket !! Live and learn

A 'Buena Conducta' letter is req'd for citizenship applications -

Yes - you are refused until you pay
Clearly, a good conduct letter must, by definition, be clean -
No outstanding tickets , etc

I've seen plenty of cars running red lights, not as many as motos for sure, but a lot. Just because this won't work for motos is no reason to not do it.

Few of us live in Santo Domingo to see how that works. (I personally hate even visiting Santo Domingo.)
So, I really care about how this works where I live and not in Santo Domingo. And it does not work well where I live.

I'm not sure how you know where all those who read this site actually live, do you have access to that data? And I think it is right that something like 70% or more of the vehicles in DR are in Santo Domingo. So obviously a policy like this is going to be far more relevant to the capital than to more rural areas.

Right - about 5 of the 10 million population lives there -
add in the environs and you have a mouthful !

The focus is there- not elsewhere - in the hinterlands.

We get away with much more.....

So who will be fined by the automatic cameras? The car owner, by the placa? Somebody tell me what percentage of Dominicans drive cars registered in their names. What address will it be sent to? WTF?

It looks like Abinader and his Government live in a parallel Universe in their parallel DR. They start a bunch of new projects, new rules and new laws every day, but none of them will work. Just look at their 'Cyclovia' crap in Santo Domingo, maybe they think that Santo Domingo is another Amsterdam, but in fact now only mopeds use their cyclovia at full speed like crazy, and other drivers use two lanes instead of three like before, that makes traffic even worse.

The country is a one giant garbage dump, police is a bunch of uniformed beggars, and instead of cleaning up this mess little by little, they build cyclovias and discuss monorail trains and other futuristic crap that nobody needs here. What's next, Dominican Space Station or Dominican Mars Mission? Mr President, wake up!
I agree, THIS WILL NOT WORK HERE. the police need to ensure that the driver of a vehicle has a valid driver license (even motorcycle drivers should be licensed) Have in there possession a valid original matricula and insurance (NO PHOTO COPY). I love the police here, If I stole a motorcycle, I get stopped for not wearing a helmet by Amet, they never ask for license, matricula, they just take the bike and put it on the back of a flatbed truck. no documentation. I have no Idea what to do !

Why NO PHOTO COPY? I always carry copies only. What if the car or the documents in it are stolen?

ONLY carry a photo copy of your license -

Imagine if the cop decided to withhold it until you 'helped' him.....

I have the license and insurance copied on one page... to hand over

You can always say that your license was lost or stolen and get a duplicate for a small fee. Actually, you can do it a few times and have as many duplicates as you want, they all will be the same. (I am talking about Dominican drivers license, of course)

Coming back from Sabaneta, through Cabarete today, I counted 10 infractions of running a red light. All motos and Taxis. In Sabaneta a Police car was on the side street and just watched guys ( and gals) go straight throught In Cabarete, two taxis flashed by on the main road 5 seconds after my light had turned green to go ! Who is going to enforce the law ... NOBODY ; as other have said . unless laws are enforced then it will be just another day in the DR.
