Sorry did mean to like this. You should spend some time in the campo. I see a bunch of hard working people. Even in SFM all I see is hard working people.
bet you could not keep up with them.
Nice try.
I lived in the campo 30 minutes south of Nagua end of 2012 in El Pozo/ Los Limones.
At the time arguably one of the poorest campos in the country (M.T. Sanchez province) dead smack in the middle of rice country. These hardworking folks you speak of (and yes I know San Francisco like the back of my hand) are a clear minority in this country. You'd be surprised by what I can keep up with.

Let's see some proof of this. 10X I seriously doubt it. I'm may visit the area next week and see for myself. Barrick Gold has used the power of the government before. They know how to spread the money around.
Lmao, yea it's called taxes

The truth is that all the involved Residents received compensation reaching up to 10x the real value of their Property.
Barrick Gold became the biggest Tax Payer in the DR and everybody is benefiting from their presence. This kind of evictions in mining or Highway Projects are very common and done all over the world even in Europe or the US. It's all about $ !!!! They just try to get a better Deal. No reason to get exited about it !

Compensation or not they are fucking everything up ....... And the DR gets a couple of pennies on the dollar and a whole lot of waste land.
Yeah Right. This very same mine was under Government Control for several years before Barrick took over. First of all; they did not make one single $ of profit but losses in the millions every year (so much about "pennies on the $) and the damage to the environment was mind blowing. It's easy to blame Big Corp and sympathies with the "pure villagers".
I don't know when you left your home the last time but in case you were driving on a road lately or used any public infrastructure, it's most likely that it was paid in whole or at least partially by Barrick or any other "mean and abusive Company".

Again, do you have any links to this or proof? One of the other issues is not just the money being offered for the homes. The are a number of "fincas" that are being affected. Many people of the community depend financially on what is grown.

It is well known that there was huge pollution and contamination in the Rosario gold field when the government was running it. The first thing Barrick had to do was clean that mess up.
That is not what I was referring to. I am referring to the comment about the profit made or not made. If I am not mistaken Barrick does not have 100% ownership in Pueblo Viejo, I always thought it was somewhere around 60%. To your comment Bob, I am very aware of the pollution issue that was there. I remember all the dead fish in Presa Hatillo.

Bob, I know far more than anything Wiki can tell me. Again, been there, spent a lot of time there, have family (spouse) there, son spent summer breaks there, etc... The issue for the people there is getting fair and just compensation, not that they are not appreciative for some of the things Barrick has done to help the community.

Then why were you asking for links or proof.? Fair and just is a hard thing to measure.

Bob what part do you not understand? Links or proof that "Barrick did not make a profit or that their losses were in the millions every year", that is what was posted. I just want to know if that information is available, is that ok with you.

That is inaccurate, the statement was that the government lost money every year, not Barrick.

Thank you, Bob, for pointing that out. So, I will correct myself, are there any links about the money the "government" lost. Is there information available about that? It would be interesting to see. Is that better Bob?
