I've been to resorts, small hotels and beaches in Bahamas, Jamaica, Sint Maarten (Dutch part of it), Anguilla, St. Kitts & Nevis, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Aruba, Curacao, Trinidad & Tobago, Cuba. Also to San Andres and Isla Palma (Colombia) and Margarita (Venezuela), but they are in the Caribbean as well. Never been to Guadeloupe, can't say anything about that.

--------

Regarding DR's size and variety, oh yeah, there are 1700 open garbage dumps in DR, and most of them are burning every day, so no matter where you are, in Juan Dolio, Las Terrenas, Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata or whatever, you can always feel the smell of burning garbage. The whole DR is a big garbage dump.

But, who cares when the resort is cheap and a minibar in a room looks like this:
I did not include Puerto Rico or Cuba on my list, and I have been to both many times and I forgot all about my visit to the Bahamas. I guess that is how memorable I found it. Yes the DR is filled with garbage. Why do you live in a country you find so disgusting? I am pretty much a non drinker and only go to a resort when we take our employees.

Are you actually here in the DR? If so, may I politely ask why you choose to be here, given that you don't seem to like it very much?

Everyone has a choice or a reason. But constantly posting/commenting the same negativity over and over is tiresome and starts to become questionable (just being negative to provoke a response). Don't like the resorts, beaches, etc., here in the DR, don't go. The good thing about the DR there is almost something/somewhere for everyone's liking.

There's a reason for everything, so obviously I have a reason why I am here, but that's not something I would share on this forum. And that reason is not a marriage to a Dominican/ cheap Dominican pussy, I have a 30 years old wife from Eastern Europe, I can afford that.
Have you ever thought about: perhaps nobody in the DR likes you?
Or, your negative feeling about where you live?
Or this hate that certainly leads to STRESS?
Taking a position in a pro-active way to solve some of the ills of the DR?
Stoping to smell a rose? Better yet, planting a rose? ( I have planted over 20 rosas in my garden. What a stress breaker!!)
Peace be with you.

That's absolutely true. There's a lot of things that I like in DR. But the thread is about that DR is a luxury destination in the Caribbean, and that's completely false... Anguilla is a luxury destination, DR is a cheapest destination for mass tourism, mostly for those who want that minibar (see the photo in the earlier post) in their room.

I actually know a lot of people who travel to the Caribbean resorts from different countries. Those who used to travel to some real luxury destinations and visited DR, all say the same, 'what a shlthole, never again'. But those who were looking for the place like 'all-you-can-eat' and 'all-you-can-drink', they love it in DR and can't wait to visit again, they don't care that the food is crap and most of the alcohol is fake, they just want to be drunk 24/7 for a cheapest price possible.

Are they really building that??
They are building it. I was at the meeting when Leo described the plans for the Cabarete Country Club which will have the lighted golf course.
Something about buidling the wall along La Cienaga (and then moving the residents their to Bombita) might cause some delays, but Leo really wants it done.

One of Michael Jordan's favorite spots. My friend is the golf pro there and he caddies for Jordan when he is there. Julio Santos was a professional golfer and still plays some tournaments..........Jordan owns property there...........
