In the first eight months of the Abinader administration, the National Congress has approved loans and financing for more than US$6.59 billion to deal with the health and economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. As reported in El Caribe, for health-specific tasks, the government has taken on more than US$900 million in loans, including those to finance the Covid-19 vaccines
Loans have also been taken to finance the Yaque del Norte river basin improvement program; to increase transportation capacity of Santo Domingo Metro line 1 and support the first stage of the EdeSur Master Plan for the Expansion of the Electricity Distribution System (PMESD), among other government projects.
