Congress has passed the special transitory bill that will enable the Abinader administration to complete high priority public works. The bill was submitted by the Presidency to get around red tape and be able to conclude schools, hospitals and road works that were begun under the previous Medina administration.
Many of these works have been suspended due to lack of budget allotments. In many cases the works had surpassed the legal plateau of 25% additional costs authorized by Dominican law.
The Senate passed the bill on Wednesday, 26 May 2021. It had already passed in the Chamber of Deputies. It returns now to the Presidency for enactment.
