Court lifts house arrest for General Torres Robiou; Three accused generals only banned from leaving the country

The First Collegiate Court of the National District has lifted the house arrest and electronic ankle monitor of former director of the Specialized Body for Tourist Security (Cestur), General Juan Carlos Torres Robiou. He is among those implicated in the alleged corruption schemes uncovered in the Coral and Coral 5G operations, N Digital reports.

While Torres Robiou has been released from house arrest, he is still subject to a travel ban. He had been in preventive detention since May 2023, serving 18 months in prison.

The court’s decision benefits Torres Robiou and two other generals arrested in November 2021 as part of the Coral 5G operation: Julio Camilo de los Santos Viola and Boanerges Reyes Batista. They now face only an exit restriction as a coercive measure.
