I hope maybe someone here can help me. I've tested positive for covid just after I arrived here a few weeks ago. I've been asymptomatic the entire time, but I'm still testing positive.

Where do I go to get a recovery certificate so I can fly home? I'm currently in Santo Domingo, but my flight back is from Punta Cana.

That's wild. I actually met a guy up in Sosua recently who told me he entered the country sick with Covid and he was not asymptomatic. He passed thru the airport temp check without any problem and only quarantine he engaged in was sitting on a barstool chattin up the local putas.

Hi, I received my documentation of recovery about 2 months ago at Hospiten by Dr. Cruz Mercedes Reyes Neumologa- Broncoscopista.
It was a bit of a challenge to get it but it is possible. From my experience this is what to do. This may or may not be different for you.

1) Have a regular doctor do a chest scan and blood work on you. If everything is good then go to step 2.
2) Take your documents and passport to Hospiten. Go to the second floor and tell them you are there for a consultation for covid recovery. Dr Cruz is a lung specialist. Recovery letters can only be made by a Neumologa ( lung specialist doctor) this is what I was told. I didn't make an appointment. I showed up and had to wait about 2 hours. cost was 1800 pesos if i remember correctly. Recommend you go early afternoon.
****3) they also asked me for a negative covid test which I provided. Yes i know some people test positive for up to 3 months. I dont know what to say. But they said it was required. They want to see your positive covid test result and a negative covid test result before letter issued.
3) After she reviews your documents your letter will be made. They will give you the chance to review it. Make sure it says you are able to end isolation and are fit to travel. The letter will be in Spanish.

I understand the covid tests are expensive. But i would recommend you get re-tested maybe in 3 days or something and hopefully you get the negative result.

4) I still recommend getting the negative covid test prior to flying if possible.

When I visited the US a few weeks ago the airline guy did not like my documentation of recovery which was less than 90 days old and he was giving me problems saying you cant fly with this paper. Thankfully I had a negative pcr test one day prior to flight and he let me travel.

Also when returning to the DR I flew with Delta airlines and the delta airline representative made me buy a return ticket in order to get my boarding tickets. If you are coming back just be ready with Expedia in case they ask you. I had to literally buy it in front of him and show him my computer screen.

My flight to the US and returning to the DR was pretty much a completely packed flight.

Ticket counters here in the DR are expecting passengers to show a negative test. They may not know what to do with a medical recovery certificate or even if your destination country allows those. Step one for airlines and medical certificates appears to be a negative test. Maybe concentrate on procuring that. I'm sure a negative test is possible somewhere for some pesos, but probably not at the main labs. Ask at the hotels for tourist testing places. They may be more likely to provide what is needed unless they are involved in the false positive scam like what seems to be happening at an AI tester here in Sosua.

They ask for proof of a positive test result, you sign a statement saying that you have completed quarantine and are symptom free, and they email you the documentation. Just make sure that the letter includes the necessary information for the country you are traveling to.

I have spoken with two groups of people staying at the AI in Sosua. The onsite testing people flagged one adult from each group as being positive for Covid. The hotel immediately wanted the guests to pay $US 400 for an extra room to quarantine in and the testers indicated that the level of Covid infection was quite low (stated as a percentage of infection whatever that is) and then suggested a retest the next day which would likely result in a negative result. Of course another test would mean missing their scheduled flight so both people went to a different lab in Sosua and both received a negative result.

Seems to me like both the hotel and the testing company might be trying to get a extra $$$ from tourists who may not realize another test is available from a lab down the street that doesn't have a monetary incentive to disrupt travel plans and needlessly panic people.

You seem to have in depth knowledge. What is your issue. You get a neg PCR before you fly. Period.

The issue is obviously that I keep testing positive. And at some point I'd like to go back home.

Well then you are here til you have a negative PCR.

If you test positive after 14 days you're likely to test positive for longer regardless of how you feel.
It's your call how badly do you want (need) to go home, one can fly to Mexico without any requirement, then check with the airline(s) procedures for the next leg.

Hi there!

Just wanted to give you guys an update. Thanks to DRdreamings advice, I managed to get on the right track and solve the situation.

Saturday the 15th of January I started my long journey back home. I got a Covid Recovery letter form quick.md, it costed me $75 for a videoconsulation and a signed certificate. When I first created my account there was no available appointments for over 2 weeks, but I emailed them and within a few hours I'd gotten an appoinment the next day.

I flew PUJ-JFK-MUC-ARN-OSL. I had no problems getting into the United States, flying to München with the certificate was a bit trickier, since there seemed to be some confusion/disagreeement between Lufthansa and German authorities regarding the validity of the letter. Lufthansa claimed that it had to be minimun 28 days old (mine was less then 24 hours). At the end I was allowed to check in, boared and enter Germany. Upon arrival to Sweden and Norway non of my papers were checked. I still had to test myself in upon arrival in Norway and quaranteen until I got the results.

I'd like to thank everyone who helped me, especially DRdreaming. When I first posted here I felt that the situation was hopeless, but this experience once again reminded me - that there is always around bureaucracy!
