I do not agree.
From how I read your post you are saying that sex trafficking does not exist.
It exists.
We just do not know if it exists in this case.
Because people have been accused and arrested, not convicted.
And we don't know they were not treated in this way.
But we will know once the prosecutors present their case and the girls testify now won't we.
I agree it exists ,, what I am saying these women know what they were getting into ..and they know before hand their passports will be taken from them upon arrival. its the only thing of value they have .....
I agree and I've personally spent time with and know many Colombian women that travel the globe to earn money as prostitutes. Is there SOMETIMES sex trafficking,yes but it's the exception rather than the rule. Most of the Colombians that leave their country to work in the sex business do it because of the crazy money that they can make. Venezuelans do it more out of desperation because their country is in shambles right now. An example was Elvis' operation,he didn't take the girls passports or beat them or kidnap them and those girls made bank,he took a third of what they made. He had literally hundreds of girls on a waiting list anxious to work there,both Colombian and Dominican.
The Malecon jumper is one who was clearly being held against her will. Living in a tower and entertaining customers in the same apartment.

That's one example of one that was being trafficked,there are thousands of women that aren't. I am in a position of knowledge on the subject. I have met them,talked to them and yes,used their services. I've also lived in Colombia and have family there.
On the other side of the coin, the inhabitants of the apartment she jumped from were arrested for prostitution and money laundering.
There were around 10 passports confiscated, along with diamond jewelry and property titles.
The Haitian-Canadian who was arrested with his Colombian partner were later released, and he has written a book about the experience.

Human trafficking is a transnational business. These networks are usually connected with others, and operate in a very similar way. They are also usually involved in other activities, like drugs and money laundering. They're not in to treat people nicely. The person is just a piece of merchandise., and they're in to ruthlessly profit from it.
According to news, the girls had their passports taken away and were told they owed thousands of dollars. which is a very typical setting for these cases.

You have made your point several times, but you seem to be ignoring or unaware of the fact that the DR govt. often uses the term "trafficking" when the girls are willing participants. In some cases the girls are forced to do sex work against their will, but that is not always the case.It is the difference between "forced" and "voluntary".
