Well there is likely enough swine production in the US to make up for the pork demand in DR but how it would be distributed is another question.

And who compensates the farmers for culling their herds? Will they even do it - I doubt it if they are not paid. And how much tainted pork will wind up in the food chain, or there already.

Will this ruin the Christmas dinner for many Dominicans ?

And what will be the price effect? More to add to soaring inflation?

Well Excuse Meeee, but Good.
I saw a truck load of pigs just two days ago that were headed somewhere and I doubt it was to be culled, which should be done on the farm they were raised.
So there must be pockets of the country (spotted them near the POP airport) or else some farmers are not culling the swine

As of the end of August, 18 provinces have been affected. The government inspectors have been to our granja several times now, to test for the virus, and make sure proper sanitation protocols are in place. We are doing everything possible to limit the possibility of infection. We disinfect on a regular schedule, and limit the number of people allowed into the granja. We have not added any new stock since the beginning of July, and won't until the current stock goes to slaughter in few weeks.

We will start over again in September. We already have people asking to reserve pigs for Christmas, so we may purchase an additional 50 to 75 pigs over what we had originally planned.

Unfortunately, there is currently no vaccine.

We are planning to purchase all of the new stock at once, to avoid introducing possibly infected pigs to existing stock.

We will continue to disinfect the granja on a regular schedule, limit the people allowed in the granja to employees only, require disinfection of boots before entering, continue with vet visits to monitor for symptoms, and submit to the government inspections.

By isolating the pigs in this way, we hope to minimize any chance of introducing the virus to the stock.

While the government has paid current market rate for any of the infected pigs that have been culled, we would suffer a substantial loss if this were to happen in November, as prices rise for the holidays, and this would not be taken into account.

No vehicles need to enter the property until the truck comes to take the pigs to the slaughterhouse when they reach the proper weight. Ideally, we would have pigs in groups, with one group reaching optimum weight every 4 to 5 weeks. But by fillling the granja all at once, we will have only one pickup.

The storage building for the food sacks borders the road, so our employees can unload the truck right into it.

If an individual wants to buy a pig, we can bring a few to the front so they can choose, with the customer never entering the granja.
