Others.

How much longer should the government continue this curfew
along with these draconian restrictions?

Does your income come from pension? retirement or investments?

If you had to get up every morning and go to work like 90% of my
Dominican friends do every single day down here, I'd will be willing
to bet you'd be singing a much different tune.

CLUE: Lost hours equals less money earned while at the same time prices
for most staple goods/ household products have doubled.

Your thoughts?
Is it rice and beans for thee but not for me?
I certainly hope not William.
Happy New Year.

Janet's was packed again today. My neighbor had to wait almost an hour to check out. I'm sure many other supermarkets were the same.

Why would anybody attempt to weather that?
It is sheer insanity. Just like operating a yola into a Tropical Storm.
Is it not better to purchase what you NEED today from a local colmado, and large purchase tomorrow morning, when there will be less people and more available hours to purchase that which you may DESIRE?
I really believe many set themselves up for unnecessary difficulties.

Could you not get a bag of ice from any colmado?
I did my restocking for the next 24 hours at the mini-market in our community. In and out in 5 minutes with no lines. Had I gone to Nacional, who knows how long I would be there. The parking lot was full, with people parking at Blue Mall as well. I do not understand the hysteria. I seldom shop on a weekend in the first place and when I do, the number in there is light.

it may be interesting to note I went to Sirena supermarket this morning at 6:30. (Early bird gets the worm and all that).

The 5 or 6 of us that were shopping had the place to ourselves.

By the time I walked out at 7-ish folks were starting to arrive.

The earlier you arrive at any store, the better off you'll be.

I can't argue that, but there are many items there that just can't be found in a colmado. And keep in mind that the majority of the customers are Dominicans.

30 minutes to check out in the express line at Playero this morning. More cars and motos than spaces for them in the parking lot. Everyone wore a mask but no real physical distancing. Despite the place being full of people they kept letting more in until 11:00 when they closed the in door. I wanted to drive by my pharmacy to see if they were leting people inside but opted to point the pasola towards home instead. Too many pushy people and impatient drivers on the road - so risk with no real need or reward. Maybe things will quiet down Mon-Fri when there is more time available.

Driving a pasola and being a cigarette smoker
can be just as deadly as the Covi.
Glad to hear you made it home safely.

They are being controlled to the benefit of AI tourism.

With respect, the AI's are also suffering (just look at what Hard Rock is charging at the moment for example). One of them was just fined RD$ 4M for having a party and MITUR made it very clear in their message that any further breaches will mean licences are revoked. This will not be seen as an empty threat by hotel managers, trust me. The government also banned UK arrivals which by their own admission means 3000 less guests (and in reality nearer to 6000 guests). The AI's are pretty much on their knees and we haven't seen a massive surge of Covid cases in Bavaro or Higuey, the big numbers are in the capital and Santiago. Just trying to give some balance.

This is a very interesting point that you have made. It has been a torn in my side for hundreds of ex pats posts that when it all comes down to the brass tacks of the matter...this is NOT your country and there is nothing you may do other than accept or gripe.Accept or decline. It is a wonderful way, (seriously) to learn humility. Newbies don't get it. Talking about "oh, when I lived in ..." is BS. Meaningless. So, IF you accept you need of course to acclimate to the situation and way of life. I can talk about this subject all day long because to me it's the difference of living the good life here or always being frustrated.
Well, I became a Dominican citizen in 2012, have a business here, house, family...etc so I guess I have the right to gripe. I am however just as powerless as the average Dominican in making any change. We all, regardless of our immigrant status can do many little things that help.

Strange questions, but in Janet's, like all supermarkets, it's hard to social distance. Everybody who enters Janet's has to wear a mask as they do at every other supermarket that I know.
We have the same issue here in Santiago.
All of the independently owned grocery
stores make you wear a mask. There is barely
enough space to squeeze thru the isles, social
distancing is impossible. Enter at your own risk.
Life is full of them.

I'm thinking that, even with longer hours, tomorrow will be just as bad. Mondays are always pretty busy and those that did stock up for the long weekend will be completely out.

Correct,

Sort of like a Dominican sending the kid to the colmado, realizing that they have run out of toilet paper.

Pay someone to do it for you if you don't want to be bothered with it.

I'm still in Canada so I'm just trying to get a sense of what is taking place.
No idea why you'd find these questions strange, there is a world wide plan..er, pandemic upon us.
If you asked what is happening in our local Safeway I would not preface the answer with Strange.
The questions were sincere.
