If curfew = no crowds, explain what happens at Duarte & Paris every day all day in spite of the curfew? Do you imagine 8 hours of overnight freedom is going to cause all night gatherings & a massive outbreak that people packed into carros públicos and voladoras all day long does not? I don't understand. If anything people will stay home and resto from the jobs they might get back if this not stretched out further.

Any removal of the curfew will lead to chaos and misery. It's crowds and spike up or less crowds and spike down. We have to make smart choices.

What would actually happen is that about 0.6% of those infected will die if all controls are released.
It is also a distinct possibility that 0.6% of those infected will die if controls are in place.

The main difference is that it will take longer to infect everyone, because that is what flattening the curve does.
Yes, death will cause misery. Chaos? Perhaps as well.

Keeping up curfews, social distancing, closed businesses is causing chaos and misery as well.

I had expected the choices to favor the economics over life by now as the actual numbers come in.
Perhaps eventually such changes will happen as the protests of shut downs elevate in scale and force.

I agree. The freaks are definitely in full control. I'm (cautiously) optimistic at some point in our life time that will change but not holding my breath.

So France, Italy, and Germany are going into shutdown for the month of November, if I heard right. No end in sight and, as some pointed out, the increase in "cases" of Covid rise first in Europe, then North America, and then Central (the DR) and South America. So a second wave of extreme reaction? Shutting down the DR again will kill this country.

Of course countries will go back into shutdown after they reopen and cases surge. That is how these things work in the real world.
Flattening the curve is the goal each time it goes back up, rinse and repeat.

No doubt.
Dominican math.
If you can believe the government's stats, that is.

I hope you two aren't saying that Rep Dom is cheating on the numbers and the rest of the world is NOT!!

As we say at the card table - you play the hand you're dealt.....

We can only go by what we have ... right or wrong, good or bad

No point arguing with City Hall......pointless

Question For example if I am staying in a hotel would the bars and restaurants still be open for guests after curfew. Please base the answer on the AI's as well as the large hotel chains in the capital.

All the hotels in Punta Cana have no curfew of any kind enforced. They open and close as they please. Not sure about all the others though.

Inside a hotel complex is obeying the curfew

Switching venues/hotels = no, not obeying

All hotel guests continue - business as usual
That's the fallacy of the curfew hurting tourism....
99.9% - or more - of AI guests step out after dark.... all inclusive - means just that

Outside - you pay for food / drink that is free inside..... most guests have that figured

This thing is so far unique. Let's hope it stays that way. The way these things work has not worked for this thing. Vaccines and effective treatments are the elusive solution. If shutdowns are the solution why are they leading to more shutdowns?

I don't know anything. I'm inclined to believe that the stats are skewed in the entire world. I'll give just one example: Where I'm from in Pennsylvania, a man in his Sixties fell from a ladder while working on his house. He died, and it was determined that he had had Covid. His death was listed in Lehigh County as Covid-related. Just one example from what someone here called "the real world."
The virus is real. The full extent of its mortality is not fully known.

The hotels in the capital are all quite busy, especially the ones on the Malecon. There is quite a lot of traffic buzzing around well after the 9pm curfew starts. Mask wearing is enforced in shops, but I would say only about 50% wear them in the streets, and I haven't seen any police enforcement of mask wearing.
