Hello yall, interesting post...the last time i came to Sosua i took a local bus. It was very nice..some guy even helped me with my suitecase! I payed around 2 dollars or less and walked up to my hotel for maybe 5 minutes. The reason i did this was not because im cheap.. (maybe a little bit..im Dutch) but i was also very curious. And Dominicans are cool..it was like a family trip. Worth giving that a try next time.

Greetings from Amsterdam.

Martin.

I laughed when they told me the prices... I said nah bro thats tourist price.. I want local price and paid what I showed them the cost in uber was.... dont let them get you.. no reason to paying 2 weeks typical dominican salary for a 2 hour ride..

Yes, the posted rates can be negotiated. But, I doubt if they will go as low as the rate in the Uber app. Even the Uber drivers don't honor those ridiculous rates.

You had to walk out to the highway, right? It's not that far but I think many people will balk at that if it's their first time here and have more than a carry on bag(?). Many don't even know that option exists. Not hard to do though.

Those are tourist taxis, I doubt that they would go much down with their pricing, but as I have never used them, I don't know. I have also never used Uber, but many local taxis in the DR. From those taxis you can expect the local pricing, I doubt others will do it.

That's not being cheap but rather traveling in local way, I've read on this forum many posters doing this. Or the other option is that I'm cheap too...

I would always use the guagua and carritos if I traveled alone and without much luggage.
