I'll be with you in spirit. I'll get out all my DR photos, borrow a sun bed, order a take away from the local Indian, and pour a large rum and coke!!

Have fun.

Yep! Pib has the scoop!

RD$200 per person.
Being held at Hotel Flor di Loto in Juan Dolio.

The entrance from Santo Domingo is to the right off the highway almost in front of the gas station (Shell I think!!). There's a sign just before the corner and it's the big white building with Indian motiffs painted on it! Entrance is on the beach road to the right!

Do come Rob and bring your video camera.......Amber can hold the light!!

I wish I could go, but I've got too much work piled up... :( But it is so tempting... Could one show up without reservations at the last minute?

I wish I could say the same for me and the UK. There are some things apart from the Indian restaurants that I sometimes miss, but then I look at the date and thank my lucky stars I am here.

Hope the next few weeks go by fast, DB!

Thanks Chiri - I have a countdown calendar on my desk (my colleagues all think I'm mad) - only 12 weeks and 2 days to go till I come over there, so 13 weeks and I'll be married - can't wait ;) ;)

I'm definitely going to have a curry tomorrow nite though, so I'll raise a glass to you all, close my eyes, and pretend!!

This is tempting. But, there is a fight on TV this weekend so AZB will stay right here with nose stuck to the TV screen.
BTW, I am the best (self-proclaimed) indian chef on this island.

Amber........

just got back from Catalina so I hope you read this........
Usually it is not a problem but Mara doesn't own the restaurant anymore and the new owner is insisting on RSVP's!
Then again Indian food (especially curry) is a bit like Italian food - not an exact science so if one more were to show up I'm sure there'd be some left in the pot!!! Just don't tell 'em I told you so......;)

AZB......if you're the best Indian food cook on the island ya better get your buns down here and show us......(besides that my hip is still out a little and I could use an "adjustment"!;)) Do you know how to make pappadums from scratch (as in grinding your own dal or lentils to make the dough)??

AZB, there are a couple of us that are going to make the effort to see the fight after dinner. There is a casino close by, in addition to it apparently being shown in a couple other spots.

Take Ruiz. Nice underdog play.

MommC, I don't make many vegie dishes because I am a meat eater when it comes to indian food. Although, I can make some killer dal (lentils), the yellowish/orange dal and the white dal (don't know names in english). I make a good tandoori chicken on BBQ grill with chicken (breast) tikka and keema Kebab. I also make very good briyani with chicken meat and I use Basmati rice. I can also make some serious chicken korma.
You see, in the restaurants, we don't have the real indian / pakistani food. We prepare some curry with cream and sweat spices to suit gringo taste buds because the really hot hot indian food can only be eaten by indian / pakistanis and some crazy americans and alot of english folks.
Funny someone mentioned that indian food tastes like italian....hahahahahaha. Now I know that you have been eating the gringo version of indian food. Let me make it clear to you all: Indian food is not sweet nor it has cream in it. This is something we have created for you all so you can give it a name "curry".
Now I will be picked up and eliminated for letting you all into this secret.
Its the same way with chinese and mexican food. You think the chinese people (in china) eat the same chinese food they sell to us? How about the mexican food.....hahahahaha. Go to mexico city and ask for a burrito or a chimichunga. They will say "what??????".

How about...

in a future DR1 reunion we hold the great Indian Cooking Challenge?

Contenders: Chris, AZB, MommC

Judges: Pib (with her chef's hat), the Brit contingent (let's wait for Dominican Babe), and we could try to gather together any visiting or resident Indian, Pakistani etc friends.

and of course all other curry lovers amongst us.

Chiri

AZB - MommC did not say Indian food tasted like Italian, she was talking about the fact that you make great vats of it so that there's always enough to go round.
