Cottage cheese delivery seems to be problematic.

Playero had none last 2 times I was there.

My Cabrera store orders it every week.... it's a crap shoot whether it comes or not - the owner tells me

When JUMBO has it, it's always small curd. Pricesmart is usually large curd, but not always. It's always a blast talking to the customer service people about cottage cheese- they just look at me with a dumb look on their face.

The only place I could find large curd cottage cheese was at Carrefour and that was rarely. I will look at Pricesmart.

So, I swung by Pricesmart yesterday, and for the first time, they were out of Cottage Cheese. It may be due to the fact I bought the last 12 containers a couple of weeks ago. lol
They still have their blocks of extra sharp cheddar cheese, which is made by the Great Lakes Cheese company in Ohio/Wisconsin.
I can't live without that stuff.
I then went to Sirena Luperon for chocolate Almond milk. (Carrefour carries it as well)
Since it's so far for me, I always empty the shelf. I lucked out and got 16. They will do a great job of helping my icebox stay nice and cold.
From there, I decided to go to Jumbo with my fingers crossed. I lucked out. They had large curd cottage cheese which they rarely carry.
I emptied the shelf there as well and got 12 as well as some Costillas from the deli..
I swung by Provocon and grabbed a roast chicken and called it a day.

Yeah, cruising into the city is something I try to avoid these days. Even though I know all the tricks and short cuts and routes to make driving bearable I still have no control over the idiot that's going to run into me.

I don’t think nata is buttermilk. Nata is Cream.
Yes Fulano, and thanks for reminding me. I had actually looked into this further since this post because of the doubt it had generated. In summary, I think it goes this way:
Nata is cream (Esp: Nata, Nata ligera, nata delgada, Nata doble, Nata espesa). Buttermilk, is the "suero de leche" or liquid that is the by-product of churning the Nata into butter.

My confusion was when I had consulted a Dominican pastry chef some time ago regarding Buttermilk Cornbread, he happily replied use Nata. It was incredibly moist and delicious. I used regular unsalted President butter and local nata. From then on, I had assumed the chef meant the product known as nata was in fact just a thicker buttermilk, but alas, I stand corrected.

I managed to go 1+ month w/o going to a supermarket.
Local colamdo, local pollera, vegetable trucks and of course, my conuco.
Needed to get my body fat % back down a bit., 😖😖😖😖😖.

Had to go to Santiago this week, so we went to LaSirena. For essentials .......... 40k pesos arghhhhhhh. And nothing special, not as of we really had anything to show for it.

The high lights :

Mozzarella "Galbani". Not great by any standards, but far better than the Sosua brand equivalent. Something like 1500 pesos for 5lb.
Parmesan...... had to sell a kidney for that one.

DR beef fillet. I had to ask them to go and find it. They only had 2 uncut. 440pesos/lb, that has gone up a lot. All i do is cut thick slabs, generous on the salt and pepper, 20s on each side in a mega-hot pan, then off the heat, pop in a dollop of butter and 2 or 3 garlic cloves and spoon it over the meat. Pure bliss if you ask me.

DR pork fillet mignon. Still reasonably priced. I always get 6+ and freeze them.

A bunch of shrimps. Price has also gone up a lot compared to last year ( or 6 months ago ).
