Been there, done that with local fishermen. I used to go to a place where they fried thick tuna steaks smothered in onions.
As for canned tuna, I'm happy mixing in a good portion of dill (or sweet) pickle relish, diced olives and a little mayo.
When we’re in DR, we eat our main meal around 1. Any leftovers go home with the maid. Around 6-7 we usually have a sandwich, sometimes cold cuts but often tuna or chicken salad. I make it with lots of chopped celery and onions and (Hellman’s) mayo, I’d love to try it your way. Then again, Mr AE won’t eat pickles, olives or cukes, so maybe not. 🤣

The only real way to eat tuna salad IMO. I chop all extra fine for my kids. Sometimes Janets would run out of Hellmans so we used Kraft.

I like red pepper, a dab of Huy Fong Sambal Oelek Chili paste and plenty of Hellmans.
Goes nicely in a pita.

Cherry tomatoes and a sliced cuke for garnish.

I spent a great deal of my life where fresh tuna steaks were available at the wharf, along with Halibut, Cod, and crab. Fresh tuna on the barbeque is nothing like tuna out of a can.; unbelievably good.
Fresh tuna steaks pan seared in a bit of olive oil and garlic butter with a side of fresh sauté green beans is magnifique. Yum good eats!

Wow I prepare my can tune pretty much the same way as you with an addition or two. I like minced shallots or minced red onion with a couple of drops of olive oil and red whine vinegar plus a dash of black pepper. I'll have that on whole wheat with lettuce, tomato and dill pickles.

I do my basic food shopping at Aprezio. All these foods you giys are writing a out are not economical. Helmans Mayo, Dill Pickles, Fresh Tuna all that is expensive and only special treats for me. Roast a whole chicken yourself and it can last a long time. Store in small packs in the freezer and use as needed. I make my own hot sauce (I am a hot sauce addict). A few pounds of chili peppers at the Chinese market are around rd$50. Boil, blend to paste in blender, freeze paste to make about 5 bottles, mix paste with a little salt vinegar and water. Tomato starts getting a little mushy stick them in bag in freezer and use for pasta or soup. Same as celery leaves and broccoli stems. Save for soups and sauces or for pasta sauce.

I know you posted this for the Bustelo…. But I fixated on the 10 platanos for $2.

How much are platanos in DR these days???
Trucks go through the barrios here selling platanos for 5 pesos, but they're not the the platanos criollos. I think they cost 15 pesos(?).

Sambal Oelek should be in everyone's refrigerator. It is excellent on sandwiches (lightly) and on the morning eggs and makes a great barbeque sauce as well when mixed with some brown sugar or molasses (or sorghum)

Geez.
Is there a way to post a picture that isn't as tall as the Empire State building?
It has been a while.
Anyway...
This is my hot sauce of choice.
It seems to be from the same company as the sambal and they line up side by each in the grocery store.
Eating piquante is an addiction.
The more you eat, the more you crave.
I put in almost everything.
P.S....
Bronzie, if you're reading this.
Hiya.
Long time no see.
I hope all is well.
