Some don't live within 50 miles of a person of color (not just black), so they don't get the opportunity I guess. When I was growing up, it was 100 miles. Of course, the only successful people I knew growing up were bankers.

Definition of a sanky
seems like the classic excuse... but keep on dreaming... or wishing...
a sankie is somebody who will lure vacationing women into a wild vacation and dream... and this is not reserved to the DR only... and some women may fall for that, others come and look for it.. but to put all women on the same level, or for that matter all Dominican men on that level, is below the belt and a show of disrespect to both women and men... which in itself is evidence of a certain lack of upbringing...
I have never been to a resort but from my experience, I would say that poor touristy countries are full of "want to be". They don't necessarily look for a Gringa and are not profesionals the way animation guys are described.
In reality, they are just opportunists -not real con-artists- who see gringo(a) as an opportunity for free Presidentes, someone to go to for a prestamo or even marriage (jackpot). Yes, this behavior is motivated by poverty (although it does not mean that every poor persons think and act this way).
Of course, these opportunists have become more prevalent in tourist areas as they see first hand their companeros lift out from poverty thanks to a gringo (a).
I've never lurked around in men's bathrooms checking out the competition or asked any chicas to make comparisons, but I have only one comment on "the big black and decker drill machine reference. Either women coming down for those sankies were doing so unsafely, or else it wasn't just for the big black and decker drill machine. Not to brag, but no farmacias in the DR sold Magnum condoms when I first came here in 1999 (they do now though). They must have other reasons for looking for a sankie I guess.

I don't understand why you have to insult other posters to prove your point. Because when you do, the thread becomes about you. Maybe exciting for you, but it is boring to most of us, nothing constructive comes out of it.
Also, I disagree that women are sugarcoating cause most don't come looking for it. They get tricked by these con-artists. Granted, I find most of them very naive, but you are taking the credits/blame off these sankies.

I agree on some level when that middle-aged, overweight white woman is taken by a sanky. BUT, it is not always the case. I swas normal or good looking girl walking around with sanky the same age. Part of the the problem is that too many women want to believe in exotic fairytales.
I have a friend who got taken in Cuba by a jinatero (i.e Cuban sanky) who once he landed in Europe became a monster. That girl is stunning !! It was obvious, it wasn't going to work as they had absolutely nothing in common. FYI,she wasn't looking for a drilling machine, she is black and could get anyone at home.

Part of the problem with asking someone to define something like a sanky is that many will include their own personal value system/judgement as part of the definition. It says more about us than about the subject at hand.
Because of that, we (men) don't really know and probably shouldn't try to say anything, unless we can keep our bias out of our statements. I know that applies to me as well, and I do try to be unbiased.
Of course, there may be some men here who HAVE had some dealings with sankys. That may also be why they are so passionate about the subject, and have so much negative to say. However, that is NOT something that I care to know anything about!
People have a tendency to see themselves as individuals, and others as part of some group. It is natural for people to do that. But it becomes prejudicial when one lumps people into the wrong group. Everyone on this planet has been a victim of that kind of thinking at some point in their life. It just doesn't feel good to be victimized that way. Yet we do it to others. For example, some like to lump all american blacks together based on a somewhat limited knowledge (ignorance?) of who we are. Likewise, some deal with NYC cabdrivers and 7-11 clerks, but would never say that that represents all of the people of a country.
But just know this, as you read about sankys. NOT ALL DOMINICAN MEN ARE SANKYS! NOT ALL DOMINICAN WOMEN ARE PROSTITUTES! There is something very wrong when we try to only compare the worst of others with the best of ourselves.
Some of the behavior that we may see, and define as sanky, goes on back in our own home countries. I've been to more than a few places, and I could tell you stories that are unbelievable. Despite what you may say or believe, there is prostitution everywhere. It may be called something different, and it may be practiced differently, but it's the same old thing. You already know about it, and how YOU would deal with it.
So, we have been asked to define what a sanky is. Not whether you should or should not deal with a sanky. That just might be a different topic. However, this is information which can be useful to those who visit the forum, and they are free to do with it what they will. As adults, they have that right. Who are we to say otherwise.
We, and especially us men, have this tendency to want to protect women from doing what some men sometimes do. Headline ... women are adults, they can own property, they can hold high political and business office, and more. The protection that I will give to someone in trouble, man or woman, is about the same. But I believe in letting an adult be an adult. Likewise, I cringe when I hear some women say "HE made me do it". Adult rights bring adult responsibilities. If a woman reads about sankys, and chooses to deal with them, that's her business. I will only say -- have a wonderful time!

Well that should have been apparent before she was turned over back in Europe - although I must say that I can see how an equally young and attractive girl could fall quite innocently for the Sanky treatment - true enough.
I just do not beleive the apparent naivety of some of the disappointed women I have read about on this forum.
