i tested in both 23andme and ancestrydna and i came out 60% European (25% Iberian, 19% Italian/Greece, 12% UK), 27% West African (8% Benin/Togo, 7% Nigerian, 7% senegambian/mali), 9% native american (likely taino most def), the rest is north african and west asian
not really anything special there but still interesting, i already knew what i was gonna come out but i expected my native component to be a bit lower and not 9% but that makes me happy that i have a good amount though so i am 9% real Dominican
going back to the DNA studies i like the old 1950s studies a lot, i didnt know they had one as i said previously, i think its brilliant idk how close it is to reality but definitely a good find
Dominicans are basically a people of first tainos who then slowly started mixing and dying out and was deluted from the first settlers which were largely Andaluzians in the 1500s along with some portuguese in the later 1500s (especially in the cibao), then the African slaves were imported due to the need for "obra de mano" labor after the taino slaves were dying out due to the harsh conditions, maroonages, and diseases (also the mixing), later on the french as they occupied haiti (west side) they slowly started to populate the DR (east side) especially the cibao region and because of this fear was created of possible french invasian so the government of DR told that to spain and spain later sent ALOOT of Canarians over to the DR in the 1680s-1760s to delute and sieze control of the french population which they did successfully and they also founded many towns all around the the DR including some on the haitian side (which alot dont know bout) they came by way of "el tributo de sangre" tribute of blood whcih basically is that every package from spain sent to the new world had to include 5 canarians on that ship, because it wasnt just the DR who had these territorial problems, PR, cuba, Louisiana, Venezuela, and Uruguey had em too but the canarians basically went all over but they made the biggest contribution in the caribbean, spanish florida, louisiana, and the caribbean coasts of south america and some parts of central america such as veracruz etc... then the canarians basically became overseers sicne they were not a well off individual group of ppl economically speaking, many also worked along side the slaves and intermarried with slaves (mainly canarian man and black african woman) thats how it was then, after the 1750s the canarian migration dropped rapidly in the DR due to issues within the country, thats us guys, basically our population is formed in that era (mainly not entirely) 1492-1760
