in my opinion if you can afford it a good home water treatment system is well worth the money. we got one and never regretted it, and dont have to get the big bottles anymore.
Agree. I had one for years. I'm too old to buy one now and not enough demand. I use one of the botellon electric pumps with an inline filter.

For the Kitchen , washing vegetables and Drinking, Reverse Osmosis, with UV Light , kills 99.99 % of everything .. Once you have one you will never depend on anyone else for clean water again, and you have the Peace of mind of knowing what you are drinking.
Because do you really know what is in that bottled water you buy, to begin with .
I'm sure there is a lot of shenanigans going on , a lot worse than your 5 Gal Bottle being in the sun for a couple days .
Someone mentioned in a Previous thread , that they are 100 % sure that those big Bottles never get rotated
There is no such thing as F I F O , inventory . They just dont care.

Can you recommend any brand of water purifier with UV?

David, do you want one for a house pump, or something for an inline filter on your refrigerator water line?

Can you use this to purify Dominican water from the tap, or just for water from thee botellon?

I've always thought reverse osmosis was overkill, but it will definitely filter out everything.

My First Exposure to Reverse Osmosis was in Cozumel Mexico. Circa 1987 ? . The Hotel was very proud of their new RO System and the fact that you could Drink their tap Water without fear
and we did , and no one got sick from it .

Velero in Cabarete has signs in the rooms stating that the water is filtered and potable. I also drank it with no issues. Not sure what kind of system it is. The soup from the restaurant on the corner is another story.

The membrane on RO systems will get all of the solids for sure and a UV light kills everything.

Then again, I've run water through the sand, charcoal, and gravel with nylon cloth and UV and have gotten water that's just as pure.

As long as sand is backflushed every month or so it will last forever at no cost.

Too much trouble with all the filters. I just drink water from the botellón as long as the bottle is not green and slimy and hasn't sat in the sun for a while. In USA I drank well water or whatever came out of the tap or hose. When camping drank water from a spring that came out of the hillside. As my grandma said "Don't get your bowels in an uproar!" (unless they are a rumbling).

I remember drinking spring water as a kid in the country. Very refreshing. It would be cool to find that here.

When I lived in La Vega we had an inbuilt simple filter on the sink. The water from the cistern through it in a pan and boil it for ten minutes.
Never had problems ..

boiling water is a great way to make tap water potable. A tad labor intensive but it works. Bottled water for me except when drinking Perrier or Pellegrino

I know an old woman who has spent her life on a farmette near Puerto Plata. She has always drunk the water coming out of the mountain not far from Damajagua.
