A friend of mine travels all the time on CaribeTour busses with her dog. It must be in a carrier cage and has to go below with the baggage.

that is exactly what it is. no way he is getting into the passenger cabin.

...and the cargo area on these buses is not climate controlled nor is the air filtered for exhaust fumes. Not a place for a living creature.

Couldn't agree more! She travels in the cargo hold on a plane but there is no way I would put her in the baggage compartment of a bus. (I do realize that in reality there may be little significant difference between these two.)

i am sure that the cargo hold design of an airplane must have some provisions for the safe transport of animals. i am sure that if a person pays American to transport his rottie, and he shows up dead at the destination, lawsuits might be the order of the day, unless a comprehensive waiver was signed..

Yes, like having the cage/kennel tethered in place - I can just imagine the possibilities beneath a guagua!

Fortunately we had no plans to make any long road trips and if that changes, a rental car is always an option.
