Dolce, Tribeca, Francifol

Are these still the best clubs (besides the tipicos) for a Saturday night? Anywhere where the crowd is a little older, but still fun?

Also, I was told of a good restaurant in the same plaza as Dolce... any info on it?

And finally, does anyone have the addresses of these (or other good) places?

From what i hear, yes they are.
Dolce is on 27 de Febrero, i think.
Francifol is on Calle del Sol, just below the Park Duarte (next to the cathedral--the park, not Francifol)
Tribeca is tucked away on a side street between Ave Duarte and 27 de Febrero. Street calle Jose Maria Cabral. Anyway all the taxis know where it is.
Also Zoom in the Metropolitano Shopping center on 27 de Febrero and Texas.
And the kids on the board can point you in some more directions.

The best new restaurant is Zol, located on Calle 11 just off of Ave Metropolitana (close to Bon) in the Jardines.

I'm hardly an expert on Santiago nightlife, but for a slightly older crowd, and maybe a bit more provinical, what about Kartuja?

Thanks for the replies. We went to Tribeca and Dolce.

Both were crowded with a young crowd... around 18-30.

Tribeca is much smaller and played only Salsa, Merengue and some Bachata. They charge 500+ pesos for a Grey Goose and OJ! (5000 pesos for a bottle)...and plenty of people were ordering them. Very affluent crowd...especially considering the average age.

Dolce is about twice the size, had a much more mixed crowd and drinks were more reasonable. They also played more "American" dance music.

I've been to Zoom before...it's tiny and ridiculously over-priced.

We also went to the "after-hours" disco at the Hotel/Casino Gran Admirante... also VERY tiny, absolutely packed, but kind of fun....and open until 5 am.

We ate at Paparazzo...next to Tribeca. Excelent food and impeccable service, a little pricey, but not that bad (relative to NYC or Miami...or even Santo Domingo and Cabarete).

We stayed at Hotel Casino Matum. Rooms were quite large and on par with say, Aloha Sol...but the front desk service was truly horrible. We were quoted 1830 pesos, tax included on the phone...when we arrived, they tried to charge us 2500 pesos...after a few minutes of arguing and a threat to leave, they agreed to the quoted price - which was confirmed 3 times prior on the phone...ridiculous... especially as we're looking at a plaque in the lobby proclaiming their dedication to excellent service. Also, there is no breakfast included...and nowhere close by to get breakfast, although it is a great location otherwise.

..anyways i can go to those kinds of places here where I live and the people are not stuck up and the drinks are under $15........so I'll stick to my chopo places in the DR, LOL. oh AZB will like that one, :cheeky:

Is the new section considerably nicer than the original? I've stayed there a couple of times, and while acceptable for the price (I think I payed 600 pesos), wouldn't stay there again unless nothing else was available...and definitely wouldn't pay 1300 pesos...

There are many decent places in Santiago where the drinks...and food for that matter, are very reasonably priced... but the places that cater to the "young and affluent", seem to charge whatever they want...and people love it...same is true in Santo Domingo...

poor souls and hooray for the club owners, they are laughing all the way to the bank, banking on these people's ego, the affluent feel they need to fit in and to fit in they need to pay as much as the other guy or more, keeping up with the joneses.

No dear, you got it all wrong. The affluent pay more to stay away from dominican york chopos and people who frequent carwashes and montebar crowd.

David Z I actually walked through the new section, and while the rooms are not spacious, they do provide a nice bed (double), a bathroom, a fridge, an A/C, and TV....plus breakfast, what;s not to like>??

Of course when the old HB B&B was in play that was the vvery best place to stay in Santiago!!! Ha Ha Ha!!!!

Nice new grill and bar in Santiago....

...called the " S Bar". Located in the Plaza Las Ramblas which is directly across the street from the Super Rico Chinese Resaurant on the Juan Pablo Duarte. Second Floor. Very nice....good food...modern decor....great a/c....outdoor seating grill...nice view of the monument....glass door kitchen....nice furniture....indoor lounge and dance area as well (techno to merengue).

I'm not sure if anyone cares but Tribeca and Dolce are both very racist establishments. I have gone to both places and both places wouldnt let Dominican people (of darker skin) who were with us enter the club. They told me that I could go in but the others couldnt. They make excuses such as it being a private party but they are all BS because our friends were inside, and i was allowed admittance. After realizing that I was american and that ten other americans walked out on them for their discrimination they decided to call the manager who appologized very apathetically and offered drinks on the house. we havent returned and dont plan on it.

What else is good close to santiago, i La Vega or Jarabacoa or any other town close to Santiago; I'm planing a trip with friens and family whe are all young between 25 and 33 and I'm traveling with friens from other country to, i would like them to have fun outside santiago also can some one tell me whats goog thank you
