One lung has been collapsed accompanied with other complications in his healthdue to diabetes and severe consequences of alcoholism, etc, he can't really sing anymore like he used to. He was in the discoteca (as a guest singer) in las vegas (santiago). He tried to sing a couple of songs but he just doesn't have the air to push out to simulate the voice he used to have before. Sometimes he sang like the old days, but then he voice just didn't have enough air in it to keep up. Too bad, but at least he is still alive.

Yep, and his wife getting a stroke a few years ago doesn't help his situation.
God bless him and his family. I met him a few years ago and have a pic with him and an autographed book.
If you get a chance, read his book "ESTA ES MI VIDA"

It tells you his life and times during his career and his battles, especailly with alcohol and cocaine. Even though he has been clean for over 20 years, life still is getting the better of him.
Also, see his 1985 movie "Gavilan o Paloma". This movie will describe his life from when he was born until the early 1980's. In 1990, after his release of "40 x 20", his life spiraled downwards but he managed to pick himself up with the help of his current wife.
I really think he has been cursed by his former wife. This is my opinion. Shame, Vincente Fernandez, who is much older than him, just had a concert the other day and still sings well and packed Madison Square Garden.
I wished JJ could still sing the way he used to.
