Dominican Consul Affected by Fires in LA

Alfonso Rodríguez, Dominican Consul at the Dominican Consulate in LA (covers the whole Western USA including Alaska and Hawaii) has evacuated from his house due to the fires in Los Angeles, California.He and his family is currently in a hotel. He says can’t even step out because of the thick fire smoke.

I remember a few years ago there was a fire at one of the 'joints' on Duarte in 'Basura Chica'; an engine arrived after a suitable Dominican time period, and they deployed a line only to find out the water tank in the engine was MT, one of the engines here was donated by the NY Yankees, I bet this one was donated by the City of Los Angeles

This has been heavily in the news. What I have found extremely concerning is that they have repeated many times that while the fires are actually consuming countless family homes, the fires are admittedly completely out of control. And this in a really wealthy, 1st world country, that is kind of playing a really important role in the economy of the whole world. I understand hurricanes, earth quakes and such, I mean, aside from you not being there when it happens, you cannot do anything with them, but forest fire does not happen instantly. It might get uncontrollable at a certain stage, but you should fight it before that happens.

What warning could California have heeded and what could have been done differently after 8 months reported of no rain in the region?

I lived there for 10 years before retiring to the DR. I know how poor the leadership there has been, but what could they have changed?

The empty reservoir was done on purpose. Dumping fresh water into the ocean instead of storing it.

People are already trying to buy land from the owners of destroyed houses. They are changing zoning to allow the construction of low-income apartments.

Yep, thanks, I'm aware of all the above (except the non-existing fire breaks, that was my next question), it's been on multiple news outlets. Hence exactly my concern.

One of the reasons Joe Rogan moved from LA to Texas was due to what an LA firefighter once told him about the fires. The firefighter even told him every time they get control and put out a wildfire they simply got lucky! I hope insurances in LA cover property losses due to a fire!

Based on what it has been said regarding the Dominican Consulate in LA, it isn’t under danger of the fires (yet), but there are fumes all over that makes it difficult to be outside and for normal people to breathe (imagine those with respiratory problems during g normal days.)

A guy actually filmed the start of a fire, no lightening, no electrical wires in area, but a flare up in the mountainside then flames etc. Absolutely arson.

Oh please - biggest farce ever. I grew u in CA - Fires and Santa Winds come every autumn & winter and there are probably 20 strong periods of wind in S. Cal a year. Brush fires destroying homes go back to when they built the very first homes in the Hollywood hills.

Look up the 1961 Bel Aire Fires destroyed ~500 homes and that was before Al Gore was spreading his money-stealing hoax.
It's worse now only because more structures and CA stopped doing brush control and controlled burns and they stopped sending N. Cal water South and have begun tearing down dams

The fires are the result of mismanagement in CA. Lived there most of my life and to see its demise is slickening.
But hopefully this tragedy will people wake up, to throw out the DEI hires and put competent & experienced people into office and agencies and right the ship.
