For years, Dominican military and Migration agents have been instructed to not respond to aggression from Haitian migrants. There is even a famous case of cardiologist Dr. Pedro Ureña on the border in 2018 who was kidnapped while Dominican military looked on and did nothing.
Now, after Haitian migrants injured a Migration agent in the leg with a bullet, Migration Director Lee Ballester vowed to continue enforcing the country’s immigration laws despite a recent attack on a military officer by Haitian migrants. The injured officer, who is recovering in a military hospital, had his service weapon stolen by a person identified as a Haitian who then shot him in the leg.
Four Haitians were arrested for shooting a Dominican Navy member during a deportation operation in the upscale Ensanche Piantini neighborhood.
