A little known fact is that Salsa was super big in Africa. I grew up listening to Salsa, that s the music our parents listened to in their youth. My mom sings songs in Spanish to this day. A couple of years ago, I took my uncle to the legendary Casa Latina record store in East Harlem which he knew since came in the 70's to NYC for the day to buy Salsa records !

That s the sound of childhood right there !!

I don't know much about music, but just by looking at the videos published here: men, men and more men.
And if a street poster advertises a new concert you are 90% likely to see a fat guy with a guitar.
Thank you guys, you won't get my penny.

The purpose of this thread is to post Dominican/Spanish speaking videos. I have mainly focused on Dominican songs with the majority of them being Merengue bands which were mostly men. I see nothing wrong with that. Please feel free to post videos of women. There is room for both.

You mentioned not knowing much about music so let me recommend a woman. Check out Milly Quezada and listen to her music and then come back and post your favorites.

enjoy!

Carlos, nothing against the thread. I am simply commenting the sickening over-presence of men in the Dominican music industry.
How often do you hear a female voice from the loudspeakers when you walk past a Dominican colmado?

Understood but this is not the thread to discuss this. The purpose here is to post videos. You will see comments to discuss history or background on a video posted but that’s about it.

Feel free to open a new thread to discuss why you think women are underrepresented in Dominican music and I will give you my perspective.

Let’s not steer this thread off course.

Here’s Milly when she was in a band with her sister Jocelyn. Her sister stepped away from the limelight and focused on the lord. Jocelyn recently lost her husband, a pastor, to Coronavirus.

This one reminds me of when the disco at Matum Hotel used to be called Alcazar Club.
