Listening to morning radio shows regarding local politics, many callers are STILL supporting opposition party candidates for diputado and senador positions. The SOE and it's extensions are not changing the will of the people demonstrated within the municipal elections.
The ratio was roughly 8-2 in favour of opposition party candidates. The population has had enough.

Luis Abinader came public a few days ago announcing that he tested positive for Covid-19. Two of his daughters are also infected.

On June 16, 2020 Diario Libre published a short article with an interactive map about Dominican voters worldwide. Each flag represents a place and the amount of people the JCE has registered for the next presidential elections on July 5, 2020. There are just shy of 600,000 Dominicans registered to vote internationally of a total surpassing 7.5 million. The rest are obviously in the DR.

Although informal, the poll numbers above are pretty much in line with the word on the street.

Either way who wins it will be good for the country to get the election over with. So they can focus on pandemic, tourism and economy in general.

While changing out 10,000 deadwood political hack employees. Plenty of time for other minor issues, like the Coronavirus debacle in Santo Domingo.

While not many people have thought of whom could be the next First Lady of the Dominican Republic, Diario Libre recently brought this topic to attention. The options (in the clockwise order they appear in the photo) are:

* Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, who has been the First Lady on several ocassions and currently is the Vice President of the Dominican Republic.

* Silvia López de Castillo is the wife of Gonzálo Castillo and is noticeable for being absent from public political promotions of her husband.

* Raquel Arbaje de Abinader is the wife and very active in publicly supporting the presidential bid of her husband, Luis Abinader.

Lastly, the current First Lady of the Dominican Republic is Cándida Montilla de Medina, wife of Danilo Medina.

I am beginning to prefer an outcome where Gonzalo and PLD wins just for the continuity right now during this crisis and then in 4 years Carolina Mejia runs for president.

I will be completely shocked if David Collado doesn't run and win in 2020. Maybe Carolina as VP based on how good she does for the next 4 yrs in SD.

Interesting new changes already begins. The next First Lady, Raquel Arbaje de Abinader, made public that based on an agreement made with Luis Abinader the Despacho de la Primera Dama department will be eliminated. According to her, a First Lady should not have public funds since she wasn't elected by the people, however she will continue to support the DR.

Good move. The office of the first lady duplicated the work of other departments, like so many other government entities. The notion of 'first lady' is so outdated in the first place.

The removal of duplication of works should be put on the list of things to do for the new administration. The other money sucking culture of "botellas" should be eliminated for good.
