US President Joe Biden and representatives from 24 other nations during the Global Coalition Leaders’ Summit against Synthetic Drugs chose President Luis Abinader to lead for the Caribbean the initiative aimed at combating synthetic drug trafficking. Belgium was designated to lead the European initiative. The invitation to both Abinader and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo places these at the forefront of discussions and new actions.

President Abinader attended along with US President Biden and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni the meeting in New York City for the sharing of experiences in the fight against drug trafficking at the Intercontinental NY Barclay Hotel. Is opiod addiction an issue here? Do many people die of drug overdoses?
Not that I hear. But let's say that the DR ,which is a major transhipment point for cocaine to the USA and DR, somehow stops that pipeline.
I realize that is not ever going to happen, but let's say it does for the sake of the discussion.

Then the alternative drug could easily switch to fentanyl, It is cheap to make and very small amounts are needed because of its incredible potency, making it very hard to catch.

But for now, cocaine seems to be the main game afoot which we read about almost weekly as they catch enough to be newsworthy.

The short answer is no. That said Mexico should have been chosen to lead the anti-opioid coalition as its border is #1 for smuggling the product into the US.

Interesting report just this past Sunday on 60 Minutes

That is why I suggested Mexico given that the DR is same same with the other US popular (white) drug.
The DR plays the game better than Mexico. Hence the choice. And trust me it is a game that nobody ever wins as played except for the cartels.

Well the cartels run Mexico. The cartels can influence the DR but they don't call the shots. Nothing to do with playing the game. It's really just business. Think of the big lobbyists to the Norte

What I meant was the DR plays along with the US by catching a small amount of cocaine that passes through the DR.
So they play that game better than Mexico does because the cartels there call the shots.
