In a historic move, the Dominican Republic has partnered with the US to strengthen tourist safety measures. Tourism Minister David Collado signed the agreement that is endorsed by the US Consulate, Tourist Police (Politur), and the Hotel and Tourism Association of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores).

The agreement establishes a robust framework for managing incidents involving US citizens, ensuring the swift exchange of information between the parties. It also mandates training for hotel staff and security personnel to preempt and manage potential security issues within the tourism sector.

47% of tourist arrivals to the Dominican Republic came from the US in 2023, up 22% from the previous year. US travelers lead in foreign arrivals to the Dominican Republic.
