Dominican teacher makes finals of Global Teacher Prize

Rosaliz Calderon is the managing director of the Fundación Oncológica Del Este, and Fundacion Infantil Zancadas, non-profits that work with children with cancer and other serious diseases so they can continue their learning while in the hospital.

Calderon made the top 50 cut of the Global Teachers Prize. She is one of around 8,000 teachers nominated for the award from 121 countries. She is in the finals for the US$1 million award by the Varkey Foundation to a teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession. The award is described as the Nobel Prize for teaching.

The winner is chosen by the Global Teacher Prize Academy, consisting of head teachers, education experts, commentators, journalists, public officials, tech entrepreneurs, company directors and scientists from around the world. The winner will be announced in November. The award intends to...
