Thailand included the Dominican Republic in the 36 new countries added to its visa exemption list. Thailand allows citizens from 93 countries to enter under the new immigration rules.

To enter Thailand under the visa exemption scheme, a passport is usually the only document required. However, the border agent may request additional information that must be provided to secure entry. These documents include: A return travel ticket, proof of sufficient financials (10,000 THB per person, or 20,000 THB per family), proof of temporary accommodation in the country (e.g., hotel booking itinerary)

Countries in the Americas that benefit from the Thailand visa exemption are Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, United States and Uruguay.

Citizens of these countries are now able to stay...

It is great that one more country has been added to the visa free list. The only thing is getting there that is tough. A Dominican without a US visa cannot transit through a US airport. I am not sure if a Dominican needs a Schengen visa to transit through a European airport to get to Thailand though? A friend of mine took his Dominican wife to Japan many years ago and they went via Panama, but not sure if this is no longer viable. A Dominican does need a visa to go to Panama, not sure if they need one to transit though.

That would be interesting to get an update on. I remember some years ago traveling via Amsterdam was an option. As they didn’t require the Schengen visa for transit.

I do not expect it will be the #1 on a Dominican bucket-list
I agree, but the most important thing is that it is one more country on the list. Abinader is doing everything possible to increase this list and I know that he is working on trying to get European countries to accept a visa free agreement. If he can get that agreement then this opens the doors for Dominicans wishing to travel to Europe more freely. Visa fees are a money making machine and so many countries including both the USA and Canada might be more reluctant to go that route, plus the fact that many people might decide to stay illegally. But I am feeling positive about the Abinader administration pushing as much as possible so that Dominicans have access to more and more countries. As a Canadian and British passport holder, it is easy to forget how lucky we are on near unrestricted travel and I really hope that Dominicans get the same travel rights as we do.

An EU visa-free trip is as likely as the peso being worth 1-1 to the US$. A country with a negative vote means that all other countries will also die. At the moment, combating immigration is one of the main points within the EU, the DR is certainly not in a very good position, even holiday visas are refused more often than they are granted (my personal experience within the Netherlands, although of course not representative of all applications)

Thailand is on the other side of the planet. A brutal flight.
Not only this. Even more dificult if you have to make via panama o madrid that allow you a short visa free transfer to other destintions. All the survivable trips are via other parts europe or the US.

I agree.

Adding to the list of countries where the holder of a Dominican Passport can travel is a good thing. I do know the thinking of those that travel from the Dominican Republic. If a holder of a Dominican Passport was based in a location other than the Dominican Republic it might not be a "brutal" flight.

Out of curiosity while looking for a link l learned the following: SDQ to BKK - the JFK to DOH leg is 12 hours 15 minutes on Qatar Airlines. Equipment used is a Boeing 777. These new long haul aircraft are beasts! Modern marvels of human engineering. Like sitting in your living room. No big deal.
