Thank you in advance for any info. Im a U S citizen and am a little confused about this. Is this something like the drivers license we had to change to travel internationally that noone ever checks?
Why would anyone check a driver license when travelling internationally? The passport is used as form of ID for international travel.

Maybe you are mistaken for using the driver license as a form of ID when travelling nationally and yes, there was a requirement to get the license that was Real ID compliant.

I better get on it, were traveling in January
It isn't a requirement, but rather a convenience. I don't travel enough any more to make it worthwhile to get global entry.
With my wife being able to get it with her DR passport, it might make tip the balance if we travelled more.
For frequent travelers it makes a great deal of sense.

To clarify a bit, the EDL (Enhanced Drivers License) is currently only valid for domestic travel and to enter the US by land or sea from abroad.

It is currently not accepted by any countries if you are flying internationally outbound. It is accepted by some countries who are partners to the Western Hemisphere Travel Intitiative........but only if arriving by land or sea.

Bottom line: Keep your passport up to date.

Respectfully,
