DR1 Blood donor register - new and updated Oct 2009
Apparently, to be accepted for the Blood Donor Register at CMC in Sosua/Cabarete, you need to get your blood tested etc. Franz Scheichl at Kling Seguros upstairs in Plaza Colonial (by Banco Popular and the Orange Shop) in Sosua can give you all the details: 809 571 3360. He speaks perfect English. I believe they do the testing on a Saturday, but check with him.

There was another serious accident in Sosua on Wednesday with a plea going out for blood. I would like to remind everyone living within reach of CMC Clinic in Sosua that they have a blood donor register set up there. My friend, Franz Scheichls of Seguros Kling, works alongside them to try to keep this register working effectively and acts as the initial contact for getting people tested and approved for the register.

Although there are quite a number of people registered, not everyone is available when needed, so we want to ensure that we can find a donor when there is an emergency, as there was yesterday. We are trying our best to get this as well organized as possible, but it falls way short of the established blood banks in some of our home countries. Apparently, it isn't possible to keep the blood "on ice" here with the present system.

Mr. AE's cousin is having open heart surgery at Cedimat in SD on Monday, and it brought this thread to mind. Thankfully he has 8 blood donors already set up [B neg], but others often aren't so lucky.
