Certainly not helped in any way by the recent spate of heavy showers, the nation witnessed a major, multi-vehicle traffic accidents at the end of last week. In the municipality of Navarrete, on the Duarte Expressway, there was a major traffic accident that left at least ten people injured and involved about 15 vehicles. Assistance was provided by entities from the National Police, the agents of Ground Transport Agency (Digesett), and the equipment from the Ministry of Public Works (MOPC).

According to Francisco Arias, the head of the Civil Defense agency in Santiago, a large truck, lost control and was the cause of the accident. Due to the wreckage scattered about, authorities were forced to divert traffic into oncoming lanes until the mess could be cleared up.

The backup of cars and commercial vehicles lasted for many hours. The wounded were taken to...

A large truck driven by some low wage punk, probably without a real license, who loves to drive fast and drive on the shoulder and then bully his way into congested traffic - and he will probably be at it again soon.
Dominicans don't enforce any regulations - and you wonder why no one respects the laws.

I almost got run off the road just past the texaco station in POP by a water truck on Saturday, he came out of a side st. right in front of me, i had to swerve to the right and just missed him, i pulled up beside him and yelled at him but he thought it was funny. Thinking of keeping a couple of raw eggs in my car for the next time it happens and it will for sure.

Don't think about the next time by prepared with eggs in your car. Some of the other drivers are prepared with guns their cars. Best to keep the mouth shut, which is hard to do, and drive on.

They actually started in Sosua for not wearing helmet, seatbelt ,talking to the phone ,red light .
They are usually on the main road in the area where the speed limit in 25km/h before La Sirena coming from Cabarete. They are catching a HUGE amount of people .

Based on personal experience ,they do give you the ticket ...no other way ...

Peace

They started ? Then they must have stopped 30 minutes later, because I live in Sosua and don't see it.
The cops could make some great Christmas money enforcing the law at the light at Playero

Yesterday I was turning right into Playero.
I had my blinker on, for some time, then a taxi van crowded me out on the right forcing me out towards the center, so he could beat the light, where I had to slow to let the asshole go by
Then after he passed a moto with a passenger came up on my right planning on running the now red light, as I was turning he whacked my car with his hand.
The little Dominican guy, and his equally small Haitian female passenger, came into the lot to try to give me crap,

He was maybe 120 lbs in a heavy rain storm and a sweatshirt on. Hey I am old but I still do workout some and I am 192 lbs.
I walked up to hear him yell, listened patiently, then I told him to piss off, seeing as he would need a big sandwich just to stand up in a stiff breeze and he wasn't packing a machete..
The Playero Parking guard came up and told him to bug off and that was the end of it. apparently the guard new the little guy and called him a pendejo.

I wish the police would enforce the laws at that light, both running the light consistently and cars trying to make two lanes out of barely one.

I agree with CristoRey, good advise. If someone behaves like that in traffic and laughs it off, I would not think they have "all there"... So any aggression towards them would unlikely be followed with understanding or rectifying their actions, quite to the contrary. You cannot argue with stupid... Take the high road... Many times not that many people there...

Believe me ,they did and it has being a while. With all the rain that we have had ,may be currently busy with some other stuff. Yes, they are definitively making $. Would be interesting to know how much revenue they have generated in the past couple of months. If it can be used to redo the road going from the entry of Encuentro located on the main road to Encuentro beach and around the different community ,it will be well spent . Currently ,the road is really a mine field without any exaggeration but it's a different subject from this thread.

Peace.

I go to Sosua from Cabarete every Thursday to the supermarkets. AMET is always there somewhere between CMC and Pola stopping cars and motos and giving out tickets.
