Authorities from the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) and members of the Public Ministry apprehended Miguel Rodriguez Almonte, linked to the recent seizure of 360 cocaine sheets at the Port of Manzanillo in Montecristi province.

This latest arrest brings the total number of detainees in this case to four, with coercive measures expected to be imposed in the Montecristi Permanent Attention Court for violations of Law 50-88 concerning drugs and controlled substances.

Authorities had previously launched a verification operation after receiving intelligence reports, which resulted in the interception of a container filled with bananas. Inside, they discovered 360 sheets of what is believed to be cocaine. The illicit cargo hidden among the banana boxes was set to be shipped from Manzanillo to the Netherlands.

102 kg to be shipped to the Netherlands. For comparison last year 45.506 kg was seized at the port of Rotterdam alone.

I suspect vastly more than that 45,000 kg is making it through to loyal customers. The amount caught is not cuasing a shortage, is it?
It does increase the price so the profits remain fantastic.

The price has been steady for decades so there must be enough coming in to not raise it. Despite all seizures.

Not to forget the EU which is the other major destination for drugs shipped via the DR:

Signs of increased cocaine trafficking and innovative approaches to avoid detection

In 2022, for the sixth year in a row, EU Member States reported a record amount of cocaine seized, amounting to 323 tonnes. Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands remain the countries reporting the highest volumes of seizures, reflecting their importance as entry points for cocaine trafficked to Europe. In 2023, the quantity of cocaine seized in Antwerp, Europe’s second-largest seaport, rose to 116 tonnes from 110 tonnes in 2022. The volume of cocaine seized in Antwerp has increased annually since 2016. In 2023, Spain reported its largest ever seizure of cocaine (9.5 tonnes) in a single shipment, concealed in bananas originating from Ecuador (see Figure 3.1).

Things are still up for the drug smugglers.

Someone better get the word out to the 10s of thousands of men serving decades long prison terms for the failed war on drugs. I guess they lost the battle. But let's keep things in perspective, it's much better to arrest a visa overstayer on a tourist card or a girl working to entertain gentleman.

Let us put things in perspective. The huge amount of money being spent to house thousands of men for using drugs is better spent on other things.
Just about anything else, in fact. Jails are huge business. I played a couple of weddings in Sosua at Cass de Los Suenos. The owner builds prisons in the USA. Business is great for him thanks to the war on drugs and its failure to reduce drug usage and incarcerate so many.

Drug overdose deaths in prisons is way , way up!! Good job , war on drugs. Working well.
When drugs are readily available in prisons, you know that all is going well with the war. (That was sarcasm, by the way)..

Yes, we should stop the incarceration of men that poison our communities with violence and drug overdoses, who collect debts at the point of a gun. Instead fill the prisons with "whores" (your word) that wear tight skirts and entertain gentleman as to feed their families. While we are at it, let's throw some of those nervy snowbirds, who come down to avoid the long winters in jail for overstaying their tourist card. Just because they spend bank here, they think they are above the law.

The subject is drugs. Not whores, whoremongers or those that stay illegally in any or all countries. But you like to divert the subject, or at least try to, don't you?

As for the drug users, they should be treated fr the addiction not incarcerated.

My sincere apologies. We should treat all involved in the drug trade with hugs and lavender incense. Also, taxpayers should pay for their disabilities. Could you please tell us more about your gig band playing at weddings. This is such an intriguing business model.

Cut out the pot-stirring and get back on topic.

Windy, I'm the mod of this forum. You don't need to try to do my job.

More like to have the latest cellphone and clothing but believe what you want to. Drugs are usually associated with prostitution as well. Drug addiction has many victims beside the drug addict. Whatever works or minimizes the damage to society and families should be attempted. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any very successful program that I am aware of.
